Now if only we could get ahold of Congress and the Justice Department email.

Last month, Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard and Smith, one of the nation’s largest law firms, was rocked by the announcement that two top partners were starting their own boutique practice and taking as many as 140 colleagues with them.

The shock inside Lewis Brisbois’ downtown Los Angeles headquarters soon gave way to anger as the recently departed partners embarked on a press campaign that portrayed their former employer as a profit-focused legal mill that ground down the aspirations of its lawyers.

In an extraordinary move, its management team directed the release of scores of emails in which Barber and Ranen used vile terms for women, Black people, Armenians, Persians, and gay men and traded in offensive stereotypes of Jews and Asians. In one fell swoop, the venerable firm managed to torpedo its new rival, destroy the defecting partners’ careers and send the legal establishment reeling.

The emails, stretching back 15 years, were head-spinning in their coarseness and vitriol. A Superior Court judge was called “Sugar Tits.” Multiple female lawyers were referred to as “c—t.” The epithets “fag” and “faggot” were deployed as all-purpose insults. An Asian job applicant was denigrated for the supposed size of his genitalia. Ranen dismissed another job candidate with, “How about someone who’s not a Jew.”

By Monday, the emails had been excerpted by the New York Post and the Forward, a Jewish newspaper, and the nascent firm Barber Ranen had collapsed.

The old law firm will sit back on its haunches and claim it got rid of the scum.

Not really. It would take a few associates a week to mine some gold from 15 years of emails.
I have to believe the law firm knew of their tendency to use such language/labels. If it had been going on for 15 years, someone is bound to have said something.

I'm betting a former employee will speak up and say they reported it. Then, got canned.

Already done. Imagine how fun it was to get paid to go through all the old emails and find the filth.
I had a buddy who focused on HR and employment issues. The shit people would say on their company email and the things that they would pay for with their company cards was mind boggling (things like putting fetish clubs on their corporate cards).

Back in the 80's we had a cabinet minister who put hookers on his ministry credit card.

Is it stupidity or arrogance?

A while back, San Diego elected "Duke' Cunningham as a U S Representative. He was soo far out of his league, he couldn't read the little book handed out to all new congress critters. He kept a written log of his grift/bribes. Had to plead guilty to bribery, fraud, & tax evasion

He replaced Bill Lowery. During the BRAC process, San Diego came out ahead with jobs and infrastructure, largely because of Rep. Lowery's pull. When they redistricted, he lost to Cunningham. I remember reading an article detailing constituents being pissed off their new Congresscritter didn't have the same pull as the one he replaced.
