In the US everybody carries to prevent this kind of shit. Doesn't work.
It does happen. No matter what side of the gun issue you're on, the horrifying truth is access to weapons is only going to increase in the years to come regardless of laws and borders.

It's refreshing to see that ignorant douchebags aren't exclusive to the US. Looks like there's plenty abroad as well.

I think what he was really saying is that in the US, the Gun Nuts carry because they think that in that stressed, life threatening situation they will have the presence of mind to to do the Clint Eastwood imitation and take out the crims with no risk to themselves.

Real life ain't like that - just ask a cop.
yep, it just doesn't work that way.
And even if you are a concealed carry nut, are you really packing heat on your morning run or bike ride? (I don't know, so that's why I'm asking.)
Actually people around here do. I mountain bike and hike a lot and it seems like people are scared of everything. They even pack when they are in the woods. Ran into some hikers last weekend. I saw weapons on three of the five. Later, went to a craft fair. One of the features of a leather handbag my wife was looking at was a secret little pocket. Seller said it was for concealing your weapon. Around here anyway, people have gone gun crazy. Even the hardware stores carry these cute little 22 caliber assault looking like rifles... in pink. Must be good business.

here
try hiking out in the Cuyamacas or the Cleveland National Forest and running into a group of 7 illegals armed with clubs & knives and you will realize the other reason they don't have guns is because they can't afford them

yet

took up sailing instead

So the idiot brigade is talking about concealed carry and gun laws? As a foreigner and not employed by your government it is nearly impossible in most countries to carry a concealed or not concealed weapon. The above talk is .... stupid.

Brazil Olympics - Countries that just came out of Afghanistan and Iraq have a plethora of trained security specialists available to be hired. They will then hire locals to do the hands on work. The locals that will observe, blend in and arrest. The astounding part of the story is that Great Britain and Australia have shown up to Brazil without a UK security specialist. They have ZERO local persons to do the actual security. The Coach of the Sailing team is confronting criminals......

The best part of Sailing Anarchy is that I can marvel at the sheer stupidity of all things sailing.... Australia and Great Britain you deserve what happens. Please observe and copy exactly what Israel does. They know exactly what can happen at an Olympics. I can only imagine what would have happened if those boats belonged to the Russian Federation. The Russians like to make examples. The drug dealer stole some boats. The Russians in the past have stolen kids. Nobody except suicide bombers fuck with Russians.

The conditions are in no way as bad as Iraq and Afghanistan. There are many former military to hire. This just boggles my mind.

Sorry about your incident Goat. We have something that goes on similar to that in Washington, DC. The bike (multi-use) paths on the Northeast side of the city are frequently occupied by local Yutes who mug cyclists by linking arms and clotheslining them, after which the cyclist gets beaten, stabbed, or once in a great while shot, and robbed. They also like giving joggers the same treatment. A friend of mine who is active in local politics and community stuff in the city told me there's a name for it, Honky Tipping. The practice spread to Baltimore in the wake of last year's police/race riots. The Metro PD tried to stop it for a while, but they gave up because it's hard. Their current advice is to not resist, take your beating, stabbing or shooting or whatever, then report it, then they will look into it. The crimes occur in bunches of a dozen or more over a week, with outbreaks every few weeks to once per month through the hot months. The fun combination of racism and casual felonious assault in the term "honky tipping" would be amusing if it didn't strike close to home.

I have personal experience with it as a sometime bike commuter. A couple of big lads tried this on me about three years ago at a choke point in the trail about two miles north of my office. All those years of bike racing training paid off (they didn't help much in actual bike racing, sadly) and I quickly spun it up to a full sprint and aimed at the larger kid - probably 17, 6'1" and ~180, I'd guess) with the goal of maiming him and improving my odds. They dove into the bushes as I reached them, and gave me the customary greeting in that neighborhood, "fuck you cracka motherfucker" and words to that effect. I reported it along with their descriptions, and nothing happened until about a month later. The two had been robbing people on the trail and in nearby homes and were caught after somebody noticed them breaking into an elderly man's home to rob and stab him, and they were implicated in a string of stabbings and one shooting.

Since then, I've been sort of down on the district's gun control policy, which literally sends people to jail if they are detected with a spent shell casing, never mind a gun. It seems to me that a combination of completely disarming the law abiding public, and then demonstrating over and over again an inability to respond to crime except as a forensic matter, creates a large class of helpless victims. I'm not allowed to carry any sort of weapon, and as a law abiding person my life would be pretty much wrecked by a weapons arrest for a gun, knife, billy club, sap, whatever. The shitbirds with nothing to lose, however, don't mind strapping up to help themselves to prey animals, who can be counted on to be law abiding, and thoroughly disarmed. I think that's immoral.

Not long after that I started carrying a hefty Kryptonite brand bike lock on a 6 foot length of chain. It's a complete bitch to wear that ten pound metal torture device over my shoulder on a 15 mile bike commute, but on the other hand, my bike will be secure. When I get to the office, of course.

Yeah, I'd carry a two pound boot gun if I could get a permit. In a heartbeat. I've been a soldier and a cop and while defending myself and others had its tough points and there's a constant nagging sense of responsibility and worry when one lawfully packs heat, it sure felt easier in the long run than being a prey animal for human wolves.

You should try Idaho where they affirmed it is a constitutional right for citizens to carry concealed weapons without permits anywhere in the state, cities included.

...obamas first failure, flew with Oprah to Europe during height of Obama popularity and got sacked...rio got the olympics LOL..

Can't magne of summer 2016 olympics would have been in Chicago this summer...sadly though as far as Chicago vs Rio, I say Rio has less gun violance which says a lot and explains partially why it was best for Olympic committee to not have awarded Chicago with summer 2016 olympics...

Corruption in Rio doesn't surprise me though...I wouldn't go there even if there wasn't a medical health risk as there is too much a violance risk..beaches there just aren't worth it...

Rio saying they can't afford security hahaha...

Hosting the Olympics is like being POTUS . It may be a great honor, but its a responsibility and burden no sane person would want.

More Olympic violence. They thought a pretty kitty cat would help their image. The great predator got pissy, so they shot him.

I dunno, call be a chicken but I'd be on the next flight out. Who needs that shit ? I know crime happens everywhere, and if you take up a complete 'avoidance' mentality you'll need to lock yourself away from life experiences, but...this is just WAY too predictable - crime in the region has always been vigorous and highly opportunistic - the Olympic rings are just plain ringing the dinner bell.

I think the IOC has earned a rebuke and their endorsement of Rio was predicated on THEM getting paid and once they got the suitcases of Petro-bucks a couple years back they have well & truly not given a damn what happens, no matter how much it damages the image of the Olympics. They've turned blind eyes for so long they don't even know how not to anymore.

Plenty of criminality to go around.
Gee, I wonder how they beat Madrid to hosting this Olympic games...

BTW: Hi Dan, How's everything? I still tell my friends stories about the time I raced in Hawaii...

you're whining and crying about citizens exercising their rights in fucking Idaho? My God I bet you'd piss your pants if you got within 50 miles of actual civilization. Chicago and DC have the kind of gun control that appears to make your panty liner moist. Wanna compare crime rates between those areas and freaking Idaho?

Nice to see the Brazilian grammar police being quick on draw. Setting a fine example for the real police down there :D

That doesn't even make any sense with the red "corrections"
