Reporting live from San Francisco Bay, we are entering the final day here at St. Francis Yacht Club. Big drama unfolding in the HPR fleet as Himachi (J125) was reinstated from a previous OCS after they filed for redress. Truth be known and it IS CLEAR AS DAY on the video, they were over the line at the start by a boat and a half. Every boat under her went back and re-started. Yesterday, TP52 Becom being sailed by Norm Devant, campaigned to the race committee to go jib reaching around the bay (4 jib reaches) so they can pull a horizon job on the rest of the fleet. Well that worked out well for them securing a slimy win and putting them in podium position. The racing in this fleet thus far has had 3 bay tours all ready and very little true racing. It appears though, that the race committee at St. Francis clearly has their head buried elsewhere. Coming live from San Francisco. .. over and out.

Is the BBS really still happening? Surprising.

EDIT. Apparently not. Still going strong, just not many big boats.

Did not see where Hamachi won redress for an OCS. It was referred to as a scoring error. Is that the one the OP is referring to?

Is there anything about it at all that is still big?

Can't even pull 100 boats at the west coast's premier regatta, in the west coast's premier sailing town, barely a year after the America's Cup that was going to transform SF's sailing scene..and during its 50th anniversary?

Yeah having a regatta for 50 years running really sucks. At least we can all go to the greatest regatta ever. SailingAnarchy's Sportboat World Championships. OH Snap!!! That fell on its face pretty quick. I am assuming it was to poor management and organization.

What is up with this site. It used to actually contain decent content back in the day. There was even some live coverage. Unfortunately it still has to be visited at least once a week since there is little else out there.

One thing is for sure, this site is not doing anything to promote our sport. It's doing quite the opposite.

TALLTEX, if you are going to come up with a sockpuppet handle, don't make it so obvious as to who it is.

sailing anarchy does little or nothing to support events unless they get a personal invite, want to go or they have a sponsor agreement .BBS may have been small in number but quality was pretty good . Clean instead of been negative abut the event why not say something positive to maybe try and boost numbers for next year?

J70.......BBS?.......what a sad little regatta. It certainly demonstrates how one design philosophy has killed interest in racing which used to attract people with money and the desire to be unique with their own design and development.......we called it IOR. That was racing. This is shit.

actually THEY didn't. Their kids might have with inheritance. Doesn't change the fact that regattas such as this are very sad little things with nothing of interest unless someone tries to sneak in carbon fibre......gee, what a claim to fame. At least we fucked with our boats from stem to stern. Designers were flourishing. Builders were busy and the sport was never better. Now it is just crap. Of zero interest except to the denizens of the circle jerk. I blame the parents for letting their little sucky babies flop around in dinghies for far too long. That and Farr were the destroyers. It is said in this thread that Clean et al are destroying the sport by being negative. How could SA stay alive by being positive about negativity incarnate?

Got to admit, that without a solid rating rule in place, why would anybody build a custom 50 - 70 foot racing yacht these days? The ton and 50' IOR boats, and the 70 foot sleds were big boats that brought it....with a lot of amateurs onboard being directed by some pro sailors. The year of the maxi Worlds at BBS were epic. But why would anybody pay to have a custom raceboat drawn and built these days. Why would anybody on the West Coast pay to have a new TP52 drawn and built, knowing that the circuit is 10 time zones away and full of pros.

If BBS went back to a hard waterline length cutoff, you could have a big-boat series, that would not be very big.
