Varuna VI
Rooting for VARUNA - Jens, Tim and the guys. It is amazing how fast that boat goes in the right conditions. 1.537 IRC for a 56 footer.

Jens builds and maintains a boat very well....and we'll see them again on the West Coast for Pac Cup.

Cheers,

If the wind turns more to south, it will have some impact on handicap. Tonerre doing well. Faster than Lucky. That 82 footer teasing those minimaxis is apparently a Wally. And also Momo is losing ground

Lucky had some sort of hiccup about 50 miles back, was down to 2 knots for some time and pointing the wrong way. She seems to be going OK now and reeling in some boats

^ok that explains. shouldn't be slower than a 51 footer. Teasing Machine seems to be overtaking Adix :) Also the Class40 Tales II is doing really well and so does the TP52 Spookie

Clean, you say Comanche is just as obsolete as a J Class- that's an interesting point of view. I can't agree with that for a number of reasons, first of them being that monos are still by far the most often sailed and raced kind of boat around the world, so the fastest of them is still a pretty incredible piece of tech.

I think it's more of a horses for courses situation

I'm not sure when Phaedo was constructed, but according to this article, the first 5 mod70s were sold for $3.5 Million which was actually below cost, boats 6-9 sold for $4.25 Million and subsequent boats for $5 Million. None of those are less than half of the $4 Million figure I cited. Regardless, in my opinion they are awesome boats as are the big Maxi's like Comanche.
They are all used. no new boats have been constructed since the first batch.

Of course it is, just as it is for the J/Class. Thing is that there is only one course for which Comanche is better suited than a MOD, and that's round the world via the capes. If Comanche goes and sets that record, it will be a hell of an accomplishment...everything else is just a fast J/Class for old owners.

And if Comanche sets that record, it will still be a record that no one has even attempted in a dog's life.

So no new MOD70s have been built since the first batch but at least one new J Class has been built in that time. Let's revisit the definition of obsolete.

Those mod70's should do an extra penalty lap. Too fast. Not healthy to stay ashore waiting for the last boat with all that liquor at your disposal. Concise is not giving an inch . Nice racing

Oh ok. I didn't know that. That's a shame that no more were built. They are certainly very cool boats.

Go Lucky Strike! Gotta love my old favorite boat and how she is doing down there. Fred is the BEST! Wish I knew who he has on board with him. Even more, I wish I was on board with him for this circuit.
