Thanks,

Francos Gabart is under measurement problems with SVR Lazatique.

Article in french, here is the google translation:
Route du Rhum. François Gabart is well registered, but he will have to prove the conformity of his boat In the "Gabart affair", there is a blockage. No solution for the moment to the situation which could lead to the non-participation of the skipper and his trimaran SVR-Lazartigue in the Route du Rhum. The trimaran is deemed non-compliant by the Ultim class, which Gabart disputes. He is well registered on the final official list of the Route du Rhum, but to participate he will have to present before October 6 a measurement certificate attesting that his boat is indeed an Ultim.

Jean le Cam is missing but I guess he's too old (63).
Or he''ll inscibe later. Quitte a character...

Boris won't do the Route du Rhum. Too risky and close to TOR.

but the one who is back in the game is Conrad. He recently announced the purchase of Maxime Sorel's old boat to participate at the RdR and hopefully at the VG2024

Stoked that Conrad is getting back in...such an epic story teller and put out great content.  Let alone managing to get across the finish line in the previous VG!!!!

Surly the RdR is more inline with Boris vs the ever crumbling TOR...EDIT should have scrolled further!!!

The organisers of La Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe OC Sport Pen Duick published the list of the first 120 sailors selected for the 2022 edition back on April 6th.

The full complement of 138 entries is now completed following the allocation of the 18 "wild cards" which will allow these chosen to now join the ranks of the race which over its 44 years of existence has never been so popular.

On Sunday, November 6, there will be 138 sailors crossing the start line of the most famous single-handed transatlantic race. The 2022 edition of the Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe is set to break the record for the number of competitors mustered to race a single-handed ocean race.

When the Notice of Race was published by OC Sport Pen Duick in July 2021 it said there would be 120 registered spots available for La Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe. But the organizer of the event received 149 files in particular big numbers from the Imoca Class and the Multi and Mono Rhums. To try to satisfy as many sailors as possible but still guaranteeing compliance with logistical and safety requirements it was agreed to add 18 names as 'wild cards' to the 120 announced two weeks ago.

The Imocas are out in force

The Imocas had the longest waiting list, so she is logically the one who sees the most growth in her ranks. OC Sport Pen Duick awards 10 wild cards to the Imoca Class and thus allows Yannick Bestaven, Damien Seguin, Rodolphe Sepho and Alan Roura to become officially entered for La Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe. So from 27 competitors, the fleet of 60-foot monohulls has grown to 37 and so in terms of size is just behind the 55 Class40s which remains the biggest class in the race.

Poupon, Guillemot, Jourdain take a shot of Rhum

Another division to welcome wild cards is the Rhum Multi which gains four additional entires in the form of some of the most emblematic sailors in the history of the race.

Philippe Poupon will thus make his return to La Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe 36 years after his victory in the second edition of the event. He will line up at the helm of Florence Arthaud's Pierre 1er, a boat which itself marked the history of the from the 1990 edition. It also won the Rhum twice! The double winner from the Imoca class, in 2006 and 2010, Roland Jourdain will return to the Transatlantic aboard a flax fiber catamaran.

Another returnee is Marc Guillemot, second in the 2002 edition (in an Orma trimaran), who will also take a shot of Rhum at the helm of a catamaran he built himself. A Saint-Malo family intimately linked to the Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe, the Escoffier clan is preparing to write a new page in its history as Loïc Escoffier is given the last wild cards in the Rhum Multi.

As for Rhum Mono, two new competitors - Julien Reemers and Jean-Sébastien Biard - are making their debut, bringing the number of entries in this category to 14.

Eight Ultime trimarans in the basins of Saint-Malo

The trimarans of Classe Ultim 32/23 gain two wild cards entries in Romain Pilliard and Arthur Le Vaillant. So there will be 8 giants in Saint-Malo. They will be moored in the basins of the corsair city up close and personal for the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected.

In the coming weeks, the skippers who will make up the La Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe 2022 fleet will work to complete all the formalities required by the Notice of Race, starting with completing a 1200 mile qualification validated by the Race Direction. Their preparation and their portraits can be found on the brand new website dedicated to the event. It is a real showcase for the event, this platform developed by Niji, the race's Official Digital Supplier, will offer a completely redesigned experience and make the content much more accessible.

Go now to www.routedurhum.com to not miss anything of the event between now and the big start.

Last episode held 6 Ultimes finishing 4.
This year 8 inscriptions.
To me an Ultime is something like a private jet,
Extremely expensive, rather buy me a museum.
It's for everyone. Although Ultimes is for everyone with fly by drone shots.

You mean high hopes for his court case.

I fear the worst, and expect that he will soon have to rip out his cockpit roof, exposing the interior. Or move his winches, to where?

But surely you will know all this Schaker!
SVR Lazartique is pushing the design limits, but when the case ends in the courtroom I have a feeling they are in deep trouble.
They have untill  Oktober 6  the time to solve the isssues. It's a safety case: too less direct vision on the environment of the boat while sailing.
Even impossible to have straight vision when operating the winches.
Pretty sure VPLP comes up with a proper solution.

Charles Caudrielier said  the following:

Charles Caudrelier raised a different safety aspect- primarily the inability of those onboard SVR to maintain a visual watch from the winch cockpit where Ultime sailors spend most of their time...

“There is a fundamental rule in the navy that all sailors must respect: you must be able to ensure a visual watch from the bridge or concerning us on the working deck. This is a basic rule that applies equally well in the Merchant Navy - which I know well because I was trained as a Merchant Navy officer - in fishing and of course in offshore racing. The architectural concept chosen by François and SVR poses a problem with regard to this fundamental safety rule which is concealed for the purpose of aerodynamic performance. When François is inside his boat he sees nothing. François only has a direct view of his deck when he is at the helm. Only we all know that, alone, we are 90% of the time on autopilot, sitting in the cockpit near the winches and therefore not at the helm. In this case, the sailor only refers to cameras and systems, which we all have, but also know from experience that nothing beats the human eye. For example, since I have been skipper of the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild (2019, editor's note) we have almost had four dangerous collisions. Systematically it is the human gaze and not the systems, which are an assistance, which allowed us to avoid the collision. We are talking here about security and not about performance. Innovation and respect for the rules are completely compatible, Gitana 17 is proof of that! The Gitana Team was the first to think up and develop an offshore racing flying boat in 2017. The revolution came from here! For this, the team and its architects had to demonstrate incredible innovation while respecting a framework and rules that are the same for everyone. If we compare to motor sports, the team engineers all know how to make a more efficient car in theory, but the design constraints imposed on everyone must be respected to achieve this. »

I had this picture in my files, certainly aware of the design challenge for VPLP.
To move the winches upward gives angle changes inside the ultralight designed interiour.
To broaden the view will certainly need a two new cockpits.
It won't be cheap, but nothing is in this class.

Almost the same outcome in the vendee artique so far as in the latest Guyader Bermudes 1000 Race so far.
Charlie Dalin is all mighty in Imoca this season I am afraid.
Route du Rhum will be the head price.
