As he was preparing to begin his approach to Guadeloupe, this Tuesday, November 22, Tanguy le Turquais, skipper of the Imoca Lazare, noticed a breakage on his port rudder. The cause of the breakage is still unknown. This damage caused a leak in the ballast. The skipper has managed to evacuate the rudder and can resume his journey to finish his race at reduced speed.

I don’t think it’s that accurate when you’re zoomed right in - a few of the other tracks look like they’ve missed the mark but guessing they haven’t.
You’d have to think Romain’s got that 10th place now - 2.5nm ahead with only 20nm to go, and into the clear air first.
Mind you, never say never. There might just be a twist in the tale & an opportunity for Pip to sneak back through during this last upwind stage…

He has not been racing solo on an IMOCA for the past 2 years (following a memorable "boat folding" near South Africa). The boat is new. So since his sponsors stayed with him and built him a new boat, and for the effort of the team, he HAD to finish; so he started "slow" but his competitive edge got the best of him, and doing jibing battles in 20-25 knots of wind, with full canvas on, in the middle of the Atlantic was "engaged"... So happy to be there, nibbing at the heels of the top performers, who have reliable boats that they know so well.
Talking of reliability, he broke a stringer in the bow, where they have solid carbon skin (no foam core). So he had to repair/glue back with epoxy, which means going through multiple water tight bulkheads, by opening inspection ports, etc. in a Tyvek suit... Not fun...
Also, he admitted that he had to throttle back a bit in the last 2 days. He was totally burnt out, with lack of sleep, recurring allucinations, etc...
I would say that even if as a competitor, he would have loved to be on the podium, he can take to steps back and realize what he just has accomplished; he is a happy camper, and a real contender for the next VG, once he knows his boat well, made it perform even better and made it reliable.
