Axel had to borrow a mast for the race and he's now past Kito and finished for 10th
Emmanuel and Ian then Alex all had a good race since the blockage with the Azores High, But it was the routing through the high that these players got relegated. To stay in the race they tried different things to no avail except they finished in the second tier... tough.

New records have been set in all four classes so far during this edition.
Charles Caudrelier (Maxi Edmond de Rothschild) set a new Ultim 32/23 record at 6 days 19hours 47minutes 25 secs compared to 7days 14hours 21seconds in 2018 by Francis Joyon.

In the OCEAN FIFTY class, Erwan Le Roux's win set a new benchmark for the class formerly known as the Multi 50s. Le Roux's time of 10 days 21 hours 35 minutes surpassed his previous best time in 2014 of 11 days 5 hours, 13 minutes.

In the IMOCA, Thomas Ruyant (LinkedOut) beat François Gabart's (2014) time of 12 days 4 hours 38 minutes with his winning time of 11 days 17 hours 36 minutes 25 seconds.

In the class40 Yoann Richomme has broken his own record. It took him 14d 03h 08m 40s to beat his 2018 time of 16 days, 03 hours, 22 minutes and 44 seconds.

He already has sponsorship for an IMOCA- in build at the moment (designed by Antione Kock & Finot Conq and in build at Multiplast- launch early 2023). Akea Paprec (or Paprec Arkea) are his sponsors for the IMOCA too.

Not sure it's been mentioned yet, but Kito de Pavant was the first non-scow Class 40 to finish this year's RdR in 11th place, 2 days 9 hours behind Yaonn Richomme.

I was happy and sad on the Escoffier win.... Jess was sailing an awesome race and then Roland was doing well on the very environmentally friendly Outremer made from flax fibre and weighing in at 14-16 ton..... ..
Now what am going to watch every day...?

Its great to finally see Thomas C , Sodebo properly flying with that ability to steer around and through the waves..before it was if he added input to the steering it Sodebo would bog and fall of the foils....Thomas does smaller improvements steps than others

Great to see Kito do well...he's a good racer. But boatbuilding management,..he should never been allowed to go with the Aluminium Nomex honeycomb for the core of his last 60....It was a giant battery... so much time and energies ...and money involved..... Then to see a rescue attempt of the sodden mess ,where there was little remaining, worth the cost of the salvage. He has had a bit of racing on Figaro 3 and C40 the last years and been working with others on their campaigns...so must be good to be back, at what he does well.

JPD brought the modern 54 in first and Catherine .. 40nm to go on the old but famous VDH Red Cigar ..winner of the Rhum 1990

Charlie Capelli and A'Capella soon to finish ACapella and Happy are both sister ships to Mike Birchs' Original 1978 Rhum Winner

Gilles and Jess [ Jessica Rabbit ]....what a great collaboration of a hi tech build half way around the world away from the start, in New Caledonia. A special build 40 footer. Then after no real campaigns, Gilles pushed hard to get her racing, even the last week as hectic . After damage to the for'ard port beam required a grind and re lamination, from a pontoon raft. ...So to the start...then into the storms the work held up Then navigating the ever moving doldrums of the High and trying to bridge to the trades...onwards in the lead, a race against the bigger multis.

The 60 year Gilles had originally campaigned the older generation Nigel Irens , built 1990 for Mike Birch. Rugged and reliable , and now bright yellow 50' trimaran Nootka; which he gave a birthday racing refit to 2006-7. Of this time sailing it was said...
'Sailing on a trimaran requires qualities as a sailor, but also as an athlete, technician, strategist, handyman... It requires great reactivity. Get by in all circumstances, especially if you are alone on board. Landings, for example, are always risky. Little rest for the skipper on Nootka.'

A day or so before the capsize, this was his report;
Here it is hot in the boat! Set my clocks on Guadeloupe time finally approaching. All good on board except the certus who shits. No more morning or evening pictures sorry Spent 3 hours of my night trying to reboot their machine, selftest etc. to get me a message that the antenna is "failure", other than it captures the satellites well, it's rather their internal programming that is messing around ... And I'm not a computer scientist. Well, it really ruined my night!
Otherwise the beautiful JESS has had enough of clawing her cheeks left and right according to the moods of this badly-arranged ocean! A few grains tonight including a very hearty one at over 38 knots! JESS is growing out of her limbs in a foam bubble that is flooding the bridge, 170 wind, can't do much anymore, just wait for the grain to pass but it's long. Because you're going 22-25 knots with him...... the anemo is starting to wear off Phew, he's moving away, I'm soaked at the stand... reduce being sailing yes, but racing... less ! JESS continues her dance on her floats spreading her wings to the winds that return to more kindness.

Gilles had rigged a supported cocoon with forward foot stirrups in the companionway for resting , so that he was closer to the controls and the mainsheet. Apparently during a steadier part of the trades than the night before , a bad set of waves and a downburst gust combined capsize, the sheet was eased the lack of boatspeed when the gust hit ....she just dug in. ..thats your lot when you take on multis....none of that lead stuff on the bottom.
Lets hope they can undertake the retrieval ,.....especially as Gilles/Jess were only 200nm plus away from the finish...!!

Today
Jess has been spotted!! Scout plane spotting mission was successfully launched. 4:30am flight
required Lucie and the pilot to make this recognition.

Will Ollie Heer finish in time to get the VG qualification? He seems to have come down the track pretty nicely.

He said he needs to finish before 08.24 on 30th November.... but I cannot fathom his maths!

Thomas finished in 11 days 17 hours 36 minutes. Ollie needs to finish within that time plus 50%- which I make to be an additional 5 days 20 hours 48 minutes: ie total time is 17 days 14 hours and 24 minutes. He also has 3 days 12 hours redress to add to that. By my calculations the total time he can take is therefore 21 days 2 hours 24 minutes.

Start 9th November at 14.15 (local) or 13.15 UTC
Finish 30th November before 15.39 UTC

Has he miscalculated or have I?
