That's fantastic news. Such a cool boat and I was thrilled to see him leading after such a tough race.

We just got an update from the edge. They tried to drag Jess upside down at first but he was drowning in the water from the front.
So they flipped Jess over to the front!
The movement was apparently done quite naturally, aided by buoys of 1m3 on the back and also pins attached to the back to track it from the front. The sails are out, but the mast is still in place, and so is the boom!
They will be able to tow to Guadeloupe, a little faster than if the return operation had failed.
A final check and security of the trailer at sunrise before heading back home.

I read the above on his page and i'm curious if their intension was to tow it upside down ..?
Had they, surely they would have caused more stress and damage to the boat and likely lost the rig....... For those that don't know, righting a boat like Jess is quite easy with a powerful tow boat by pulling it over itself end for end (Either front over back usually or back over front) but they may not have known this.... time will tell

AMBROGIO BECCARIA : "I HAD ONLY DONE TWO SOLO PANNINGS BEFORE LEAVING!"
Barely two months after his first sailing on his new Class40, Ambrogio Beccaria finished second in the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe. From Colombia, where he takes a few days off, the Italian skipper ofAllagrande Pirelli answered questions from Tip & Shaft.
Can you tell us how you set up your Class40 project?
It starts from very far ! We met with the architect Gianluca Guelfi during the Mini Transat 2017, we thought it would be great if he drew me a boat one day, but it was more about the joke. Two years later, I gained a lot of experience and confidence by winning the 2019 Mini Transat (series), which made me want to make my ideal Class40. Gianluca had ideas and means that interested me a lot, because he had developed simulation software in hydrodynamics and aerodynamics that made it possible to reproduce the behavior of the boat in the waves. When we launched the design, we didn't have a sponsor yet, it was a big gamble, but when Pirelli arrived in December last year, we had this lead of already having a well-developed concept. If we had had to do the calculations at that time, it would have been too late to have the boat for the Route du Rhum, when we know that we only really started sailing at the beginning of September in Genoa! The project, too, was a big gamble because it was brand new, launched by Edoardo Bianchi, one of Luna Rossa's former project managers at Persico. We were the first boat built by his yard, but I trusted Edoardo, I knew that it was a business card for him and that he would apply. In the end, it was the case, because the boat came out super light, I even thought we didn't have enough structure, but in the end, it had no problem during the Route du Rhum while I still pulled on it.
How did you find your partner, Pirelli, a giant in Italy ?
Pirelli has always been special for me, because it was the sponsor of Inter Milan, of which I am a supporter, since the time of Ronaldo! When I had contact with them, I felt too small, but they were immediately very hot to accompany me, they loved their sponsorship with Luna Rossa on the America's Cup.
How long do they accompany you and what is the budget of your project ?
Until mid-2024, the budget is around €400,000 per year, which is not huge.

What architectural choices did you make ?
We started from the base of David Raison's Max 40, a boat capable of going fast in wind and sea, while improving its weak points. So we wanted a Class40 that pitches to the max, with a well spatulate and high bow to pass the waves well, while trying to have a well-balanced boat at the helm, with less drag in the medium time. Compared to the Max 40, the center of the hull is further back, we were against the tendency of the fleet on the ballasts, that is to say that everyone puts them at the back where we wanted to optimize the straightening by putting them outwards. We also made a different sail plan, very remote, more typical breeze, a small inversion on the bouchain, very straight, which allows us to go very quickly to reaching, and we put a steerable end outside that allows me to be much more comfortable than other boats when I use it, whether in the small or big weather. The nice thing is that in the two months before the start, we didn't spend a single second optimizing the speed of the boat, it was fast from the start, we only focused on reliability. Which makes me say that the boat has a huge potential, we have not yet optimized it for the gauge, we can gain a lot of volume in the bulb to put more in the keel sail, I have not yet touched the sails, I have settings that do not work well ...
What was your goal on the Route du Rhum ? And did you ever think you could play for the win?
When I was asked the question before the start, I said I was coming to win, even though I knew my chances were minuscule. And deep down, I thought a top 5 would be great, because I still had a little deficit. Especially the fact that I had very little maneuvering on the boat. At first, it was not very complicated, with the J1 or J2 close, but when it was necessary to change the sails to the bearing, I was not at all comfortable, I had only done two solo pannings before leaving! So much so that on my first jibe, I made a huge casserole in the prop, every maneuver I made was a disaster. I even called Simon (Koster) who was next to me to ask him how to help ! In addition, I was quickly deprived of air, so I changed my sails to feeling, I felt vulnerable. It was only at the end that I managed to go faster than Corentin (Douguet) because I understood that my boat could take a large spinner, where the others were under small spinner or medium. Now Yoann (Richomme) was untouchable. Having already raced and won the Route du Rhum gave him a level of confidence, knowledge of the course, which I could not claim. It would have taken me longer to play at this level.
"Why not the Vendée Globe in 2028 ?"
What's next for you ?
The goal is to do a lot of races in 2023, so normally, we will race the Rorc Caribbean 600, the Atlantic Challenge, the Normandy Channel Race, the Sables-Les Azores, the Fastnet and the Jacques Vabre.
And do you see further, like a Vendée Globe ? For the moment, I have
not had time to dream bigger than what I have today, it was already huge to succeed in launching this boat for the Route du Rhum. Now, I tell myself that we have gained experience, with a small team that is slowly climbing, so yes, one day, I dream of doing the Vendée Globe, why not in 2028 ? After, I never discussed it with my partner, I do not know if it should be with foils or not ...
Are there any bridges between your project and Luna Rossa, since you have the same sponsor ?
Max Sirena (skipper of the Italian challenge) has always been very open and friendly with me, he had already invited me to come and see the team even before Pirelli joined me. Now, the projects are so different that it is not topical, but maybe if I have to do an Imoca with foils, it could be very interesting to get closer to them, given the huge experience they have in this field.
