Nope, he cares about his legacy and his fortune for his childrens, mistresses etc. He will or has someone to step in for him. Meanwhile, his biggest worry is stamping out the coup and assassination attempts.  Nukes are just a distraction.

I hope that Russia has something resembling the 25th Amendment.  If Putin orders a nuke strike, I hope cooler heads prevail.  Or we're all fucked.

I would say that you are (hopefully) on the money. Except, rather than being a distraction, I would say that nuke threats are strategic “threat” about splitting EU/NATO by hoping some countries panic. Either way, he would not be stupid enough to use them. 
 

however if he did use a tactical nuke in Ukraine, that should trigger NATO getting involved, probably with air strikes against invading forces.

Which requires air (missile or drone) strikes against missile complexes and air fields in Russia, to protect the pilots or large drones attacking the invading troops.    But if he uses a small nuke and the wind blows, NATO has every right to do that, and more.    How Putin will respond to that is uncertain, but it’s obvious his conventional threat is no longer credible to an alliance.   

And hopefully for that reason nukes will only be talk.

Looks like the uav was a dud as it went from level flight into a dive. I’d want a refund…
