SA regatta Name change

I just looked up the SA regatta on yachtscoring and noticed that had a name change. This can't have been done very long ago. Did I miss the announcement?

Is this SA bowing to legal pressure from governing bodies?

There will be an announcement as soon as we're done writing it. Friday's front page was getting busy so we left it out. The new name is catchy though...

it's a long story and don't think we weren't ready to tell us sailing and isaf to kiss our asses. it's a battle we were licking our chops to take on, but let's just say we were backdoored by the authorities and some y.c. types just didn't understand what we were attempting to do. we have at least 300 sailors coming to our event at coronado and for the sake of making this regatta happen, we changed the name. honestly at this point, having a successful regatta is the most important thing.

you can bet your ass that the sailing anarchy world championships of the world will be resurrected for our next event, and we'll make god damn sure that we won't have anything standing in our way from calling our regatta exactly what we want. we'll have the full story monday.

So if this is threats from US Sailng and/or ISAF and their fuckbuddies, I assume they would have tried to take out an injunction against the regatta organisers (CYC and SAYC). How far could US Sailing go with this? Sue the organisers for using World Championship? Ban or Sue participants of the unsanctioned regatta? We know US Sailing is litigation happy. What damage could these idiots do?

It's simple. If you are going to use the RRS (for free) then you cannot use the words "World Championships" without applying to ISAF first.

You could call it an International Regatta, or Intergalactic Championships instead without a problem.

If you're gonna "tweak" the tail of USSailing (which the Ed has done in the past) do you honestly think they would turn a blind eye to you doing something outside the rules? SAYC is, I beleive, affiliated with USSailing & ISAF.

Stops sailing from becoming something like baseball. "World Series" consisting of teams all from the same country.

RYA would do EXACTLY the same thing.

"World" = revenue. How much does ISAF get paid for each World Championship again?

One of my local classes occasionally calls their class championship their 'Worlds'. Not in the last few years though.

Seeing as most of the hulls pre-date the ISAF/IYRU, I'd say they have every right to.

May be more like trying to stop sailing from becoming boxing with multiple world champions and sanctioning authorities.

But think of it -- Ed as Sailing's Don King and Clean as our Mike Tyson. Watch your ears if he's looking at you like you're Evander Holyfield. Imagine the celbrities they'll become.
