The Merkurs blades work great for me. To each his own. I look forward to shaving in the morning.

Now onto aftershave. Bayrum is the only way to go.

lol, I was actually thinking of Maddog since he is the only person I have ever heard say he likes the Merkurs. But I will send you some Personna Labs if you want.
Nah, I'll grab a couple off Amazon. Which Personna are you happy with? I'm assuming the higher end stainless etc?

I should have shipped my Merkurs to Maddog as well! Unfortunately they went into a scraper I use in the garage for cleaning stickers off of "stuff". ;)

I'll take any you got. I've got the basic merkur razor and the blades work great. Half way through a years supply, I hear they don't go bad.

I use these. Also know as the "Labs". Some guys are partial to the Israeli made "Reds"

The second link has both Labs and Med Preps for sale as well, which have been stated by Personna as being the same blade, just the Meds had an extra steriliztion step for hospital use, hence why the are double the price of the Labs.

Well, turns out I must have given them all out. Sorry man. I got some Gillette 7 o'clock Blues or Yellows, Gillette Super Thins, and Personna Labs if you want to give any of those a whirl.

Thank you, I think I'm good.

No worries, just holler if you get the itch to try something else.

So what soaps or creams is everyone using? I generally like the hard English soaps from Trumper, DR Harris, etc... but lately I have been on the Italian soft soap train. Razorock is some spectacular stuff, along with the old standby Cella. And the stuff is pretty cheap, but is goes a little faster than the hard soap, so price per shave is probably the same.

I'm using a hard cake soap that comes in a cardboard tube (pack of 10). It's simply called Barber Shop Shave Soap. I got it at a local barber supply shop. Once a week I squirt a shot of Neivia Shaveing Cream on top in my mug and I'm good for the week. The combo makes for a rich lather. When I first started using a saftey razor I bought all the expensive shit (Bonds, Lords and others). Aside for the extra perfume smells it didn't perform any better than what I'm using now. I also use the line of Pinaud/Clubman line of after shaves. The secent dosen't linger on me and I don't smell like French Quarter Pimp with a pearl handle revolver.

However, I strongly suggest you get what you will enjoy. Shaving should be a luxery, not a chore.

Proraso definitely good stuff. Has a massive following. The hard stuff is sort of between soap and cream. Razorock is similar as is Cella, which is slightly harder. All of them between 8 and 10 bucks.

Scored new 1/4 Grind Le Grelot in blue box elder scales. These thigns are as hard to find as unicorn tears. Love those scales.

Used to live beside an ancient, wheelchaired widower growing up. Crotchety, mean old bastard and hard as a fucking coffin nail he was. But, if you put all that aside and sat down, shut up and listened to him, he had some stories that would curl the toes of your shoes.

He was a doctor and turns out his first job out of school (this was forever ago, so must have been close to turn of century - 1900's, not 2000's), was to provide first aid in logging camps up in wayyyyy northern Canada. Said he spent most of his time sewing up disemboweled stomachs. Seems when Friday night came around, the boys would get drunk and rowdy, pull out their straight razors and start opening each other up.

Never been able to look at a straight razor since without getting that queasy feeling...

I'm simply boggled by the idea that any real sailor would ever shave. I've not had any razor blade near my face in over 20 years. I merely 'mow' the beard to some desired length with a battery-driven clipper.

Straight razors are for land-lubbers, or for those who shave on a beach so giggling girls can watch that strange gajin with his strange customs.
