Oh well. You could always sail a Solo. That's got a deep cockpit and you'd get good and strong pulling it up the beach.

Thanks for that .😂.
I have a real blind spot with Solo’s. I know they are good boats that work well over a large range of conditions and locations ( plus on py too) and would suit me and suit where I sail.
But they are heavy and their class membership makes the ILCA membership seem progressive and open minded to change 😂. Also everytime I see one I just think floating coffin. 😀
So I think I will stay with the D-zero for now and when I it gets too much for me, I still have a British moth to fall back to. 😀
My wife’s cast off British moth ( she has just bought a new one ) which is now our spare boat 😀

Solo covers so many bases, unsurprisingly it is popular. Carries weight well, tacks well, stable, affordable and available and moderately deep cockpit for old inflexible gits like me. A few extra kilos to pull up the slip is nothing.
Buy/make an aluminium trolley will save a load of weight.
Now back to the delights of the Aero.
The only problem with the Aero is that it makes me think of chocolate.....

But the thing is my D-zero does this for me too( I am a 60 year old inflexible git too. )
With the added advantages of, being faster , a lot easier to get back into after a capsize and being @ 25kg lighter to put up the slipway.
Plus and most importantly , as was mentioned by someone else , you don’t have to admit to owning a Solo 😂😂😀.

So now back to that lovely confectionery, that is the Aero.

Just watched a cookin show where they are dropping liquid chocolate into liquid nitrogen to make it puff up as an addition to ice-cream.
Liquid nitrogen suppliers await my order!
On the sailing side I notice that if left in the hot sun all day RS Quests noticeably hold even less rig tension than normal.

I know exactly what you mean. The main trouble with having a Solo is that then, you are a Solo sailor.
Now, now. Having had a DZero , two Solos and numerous sails in an Aero I can say that whilst they all have their merits I’m glad I have a Solo. The Zero was a lovely boat let down by a dodgy rudder system and poor support from the (very famous) builder. The Aero has really nice design touches. But the Solo allows some individuality, has great racing, they last forever and sail well. If I was a youth or a woman I would get an Aero though.

Tbh I mostly agree with what you posted
When I got my D-zero I made sure it had a lifting rudder not the daggerboard system most of them have .

The funny thing is I always try to say positive things about the Aero as the sailing world needs good modern boats ( which it is ) but I would never own one as I disliked the upwind feel in it so much ( sorry tillerman, this not a comment on the boat just on what I like 😀)
But on the other hand the Solo ( coffin ) a boat I slag off at every opportunity, is a boat I could see myself sailing .
No one ever said I was logical 😂😂😀

I was talking about the sailors, not the boats. Solos are the shoutiest fleet I know. RRS doesn't seem to bother them, they will shout just because you are on the water where they wish to be. I don't particularly like it.

There was one year at the Laser Training Center in Cabarete where sailors from a certain nationality would just shout what sounded like "Gaaarrrgh" at you whenever you were near them on the water. I have no idea why. But some of us from New England started repaying the compliment and shouting "Gaaarrrgh" at them whenever we met on the water. The training obviously worked as I occasionally use it now when sailing my RS Aero close to a Flying Scot, say.

They do have that reputation. On the other hand a friend of mine has gone back to Solo sailing because he found the the Supernova fleet to shouty.😀
The Solo sailor at my club is very non shouty, tbh he would get better results if he was just a little shouty as we sail on such a small puddle that knowing you rights and protecting them is very important.

My experience is it that certain individuals are too shouty. I would hesitate to brand a whole class as being too shouty.

Totally agree and in general it’s true.

But as someone that was a spectator at the Solo inland’s a few years ago, I can confirm a lot of sailors in the lower end of the fleet were very shouty . 😀
And that’s at a event that has on the water judging.
