Having done a transatlantic on a boat that had previously been hit by lightning, I reckon it will be entirely new electronics. I wonder if they have time for that...

A Danish sailor also ended up wiht light injuries from the same incident.
Your sample set of one is relevant but remains an anecdote.

I guess a 29m wing mast is a very attractive lightning conductor. Complications are that the wing is modular and catamarans don't have a nice lump of lead to stick a thick copper cable into.

I would be very surprised if the F50 with all the electronics associated with it hasn't had significant lightning protection built into the design.

I would not be surprised at all if there was none. Remembering that these boats are not designed for extended periods on the water, and don;t go out if the weather is bad...

I wouldn't be surprised if they had none either. The nature of boats means it is quite hard to provide good protection, and it adds weight in bad places

On the other hand I would be amazed if they can't swap out the electronics in the time available

There is a surely at least one spare boat in the fleet now that Japan is goneski?
turns out they finally finished the new boat that was supposed to be ready for canada at the beginning of the season:

canada gets new boat, NZL gets jpn=>can boat

BREAKING: we will be getting a new
🇨🇦
F50 in Sydney!
“It is always a great day when you receive a new boat and we are thrilled to be getting this one earlier than expected. The only downside is the lack of time we have to prepare it for racing. We will have a lot of work ahead of us but have a great team that is hungry to work and get the new boat on the start line in top shape.” @philrobertsonracing
Boat 6, which we’ve been using since the beginning of the season will be raced by the @sailgpnzl in Sydney. Their F50 is en-route to @sailgp Technologies in Warkworth after it sustained damages caused by a lightning strike on the second and final day of racing in Singapore.

one design mate;-)

or Could you possibly be suggesting that some moats are more equal than others 😉😂
Yes, that's exactly right. some boats are stiffer, some boats have random issues. Some boats are older. It's totally normal for there to be small to not-so-small differences between boats that are still "one design".
