Windsurfing Across Australia

James Francis and Lachie Paramor are heading to Adelaide, bringing with them two gigantic skateboards with windsurfer rigs as they plan to sail up the Stuart highway to Darwin.

Unlike their other adventures (sailing a 14ft cat to Brisbane) they are doing this for a purpose, raising money for ‘Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets’. And thanks to their three sponsors, Steve Jarvin Motors, Manly Skateboards, and Tasman Sails at Airlie Beach, they are able to give 100 percent of the proceeds to Youth Off The Streets.

Youth Off The Streets supports chronically homeless and drug addicted young Australians, with the aim of having everyone that leaves their care to be drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full or part time job in hand.

James and Lachie grew up on the North Shore playing with bikes and boats and surfboards, with their biggest stress being something like “I just don’t have enough spare time anymore!”. Their lives are different to the 15 year old homeless kid, whose normal thoughts are something like “I wonder if I can get any food today” and “does anyone really care about me anyway?”. So for that reason they chose to raise money for Youth Off the Streets.

If you’d like to make a donation to this charity please send a cheque or money order to James Francis, 46 Stuart St, Longueville 2066 and advise if you want a tax deduction send an address so a receipt can be sent.

Tasman Sails

Tasman sails is a new business in Airlie Beach, run by Joel Macdonald. Joel worked for a number of years at Allwood sails in Brisbane, but is now building his own business up. He makes dinghy sails, skiff sails, yacht sails and he even makes land windsurfer sails (as of 2 weeks ago). He’s also a real good sailor, his prices are ridiculously cheap, and quite often you can send a sail to be repaired to him from Sydney and he’ll fix it and send it back the same week. Give Joel a call on 0415 195 275

on the stuart highway!!! I wonder if the blast of air coming off a 50m long roadtrain doing 120km/h has them overpowered at times. they scare the crap out of you in a 4x4!

Perhaps the road trains were too much - the position stuj posted is not on the Stuart Hwy - see google map

Hope they packed some big truks and tires if they continue down that road.

is it really safer though to be on the wrong side of the road! I'm hoping thats just in that picture. although I guess you can see the trucks coming towards you! Don't get me wrong I reckon what they are doing is great (for themselves and for others). If they are using standard skateboard trucks on their boards I reckon they won't be able to feel their feet from the vibrations about now.

On a side note the fact that these 2 young guys can put together a cool project and get international coverage (of sorts) for their chosen charity and their sponsors is great. Vive la Internet

nothing but admiration for the guys!

I skate a lot and pushing that rig along those highways must have been a mission and a half.

still think they are a teeny bit loony but as Ted Egan says "Blessed are the cracked for they let in the light"

Imagine someone inside the assylum calling someone else a "teeny bit loony" - ha haa haaa!!

Too funny.
