Sailing in SE Asia

I'm currently living in Saigon. Does anyone have any contacts for racing in Vietnam in particular or SE Asia in general? I know there's a regatta in Vung Tau this month, but I don't personally have any contacts there yet.

Help is appreciated!

For vietnam not sure. Great windsurfing and kiting though.

Airasia etc means the rest of se asia is very close.

Pattaya/omyc has racing 2nd weekend every month; keelboats, sportsboats; multis at omyc. Royal varuna is a member club with cats; lasers racing most weekends.

Good kiting and windsurfing both pattaya and hua hin sides.

Singapore has keelboats, irc, sb3s, j24s racing many weekends.

Hk has a big fleet as I understand it with keelers, j24s, j80s, sportsboats, etchells racing regularly.

Great regattas in thailand include top of the gulf; samui; phuket raceweek all coming up soon. Kings cup is fun in a big boat (maybe) in dec.

All depends what u want to sail; good weather for sailing is nov - sep in thailand. Oct is usually raining but even so last year was good.

?

April (incl. Easter)

Top of the Gulf (Pattaya)

June

I know I've missed a few (especially HK stuff) and once my office stops spinning I might remember a couple more.

The question isn't whether or not there's stuff going on, the question is how much leave have you get :)

See you on the circuit!

Hmmmm!

Vung Tau! Some blurry memories from 15yrs ago when it was just opening up! Fun days.

You can get a lot of info on events around SE Asia from here:

http://asianyachting.com/ (but it doesn't seem to be woring at the moment)

From a Hong Kong point of view the calendar from the Royal Hong Kong YC is here:

http://www.rhkyc.org.hk/article.aspx?a=600&c=136

Also there is sailing through the summer in HK at Hebe Haven YC.

http://www.hhyc.org.hk/page.php?page=page4_1.php

It all depends on what sort of events you want to do - weekend series or week long regattas or off shore races. There seems to be a general shortage of crew all over the area, the problem is that no one is keen on taking a completely unknown face on an offshore. So it's a case of getting yourself known and then getting on the events you want to do.

Good luck.

Hi,

Not a lot of choice in Saigon: however there's dinghy sailing in Mui Ne: http://mantasailing.org/ the contact information for Julia Shaw is on the site.

The regatta in Vung Tau information is here: http://www.hightideracing.com/Event_20110402_VTCup.aspx

Best bet for racing is Thailand:

Top Of The Gulf Regatta in May: http://www.topofthegulfregatta.com/

Phuket Multihull Championship: http://www.acyc-phuket.com/

Evason Race week in July http://www.phuketraceweek.com/

Kings Cup regatta in December: http://www.kingscup.com/

Easy to get to, welcome crew and are fun events.
