Vittorio Malingri: on his solo Atlantic crossing in a 20' catamaran he failed to beat the record (set double-handed by P.Y. Moreau & B. Lequin) because had some problem with solar panels and, consequently, couldn't use autopilot and sat phone (that means no routing) and last (but not least) the trades weakened.

 
I was trying to think of someone other than some rich guy who wins a high profile race and instead suggest someone who is a sailor but done something on the more administrative, design or support side of things to promote sailing or provide a venue.

A race PRO, a rating committee member, measurer or someone similar. They all sail. It just seems to me that you should not have to be in the spotlight to be a major factor and deserving of some recognition.

Three day regatta at Kaneohe Bay YC - the boys did excellent work on the breezy day.

three containers of boats from the mainland - boats from Hawaii, San Diego, Long Beach, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, and Newport RI, plus two crews who chartered Hawaii boats from AUS.
