Hey, I think it's time for Santa Barbarians to have their own thread. God knows we contribute alot to everyone else's. Let's try to keep self-defecating entries about Dr.L out of this. So for starters, I saw the Lonely Boys out practicing for KWRW today. It was blowing about 20 with pretty flat seas and sunshine. Keeping my fingers crossed on a good regatta for them. Here's a couple of trophy questions I am working on: Who should get Skipper of the Year, Best Out of Town Performance, Goof of the Year (I said no Dr. L comments), Outstanding Sportsmanship. I will take your answers to the table. Anyone want to run the Spring Regatta? Thanks.

Port Hueneme/Oxnard used to have a pretty decent scene at the Channel Island Yacht Club back when I was there in the early 70's.Looking at Channel Island YC's website I don't see anything posted about racing.Did the racing dry up down there or what?

Yeah, I never hear of anything sailing wise in that area. All I remember about Channel Islands YC was that everyone looked like they were from Bakersfield and they wore name tags . Heard that the Commodore of PCYC got booted for some indiscretions. Ventura YC still has a decent race schedule although Ventura Cup has been dying in participation over the years due to poor RC work and unusual team entry "guidelines".

In SB we still have an active fleet of about 19 J/24's, a growing fleet of J/105's and a new fleet of Melges 24 plus the PHRF & CHRF fleets, we have about 60 boats on the line for Weds.

Wow, thanks for the "go gettum" but some of my cohorts are saying no don't do it. The locals don't want their blogs to be tracked back to them..they like being more hidden in the SA blogs. So maybe I will say bye bye to this thread.

Speaking of the M24's and the building fleet, the price of hull number 525 campaigned by Harry Melges as "Star", has dropped to an asking price of $37k. If you haven't been looking, the boat can be found at www.melges24.com/classifieds. Might be a great boat to bring to SB.

I have just added a Melges 24 class to the Midwinter Regatta February 17 & 18. So we will have them, J/24's and J/105's

Cheers

We have 3 Melgi 24's now..all new owners to the boat, but seasoned sailors and eager to race. Interest is high in the fleet and several more are rumored to be in the works for the new year.

would have joined the melges fleet if this had happened a few years ago.....working on a local FT10 fleet now....there is a decent SoCal fleet at this stage however it would be nice to race one design locally also.........in Area A including Del Rey we have about 5 at this stage

Busted again. No I have not worked on the bcyc web site, still own the bcyc.com nomer . Will have new t's this year and hope to get the darn web site up to speed. At this point the treasured t's are mostly owned by sailing gals in California and Mexico and a few special male supporters. Bahia Corinthian YC wanted to buy it from me as well as British Columbia YC, but I'm not selling out. Some day the Bitchen Chicks Yacht Club will be famous. Thanks for your support.

Santa Barbara? You have boats there? Any racing?
We actually race in over 18 knts. San Diego says" It's too windy". San Diego the home of the sailors who lost the Cup. The home of the Padres...never won anything. Chargers... same story. Clippers... moved to LA... still suck. Criminals on the city council.
