Another light night....It's either 5 or 35.

At least the kelp bed is firmly in place.

Well I did miss the last 2, which were probably 12-13.

Perhaps you don't know this story..about the gay guy who is in love with his proctologist?

WTF, you're confusing me.

Good thing it's Friday.

Cool to have them here. The whole Mag crew was at the YC tonight, Ernie, Mike Elias, Steve D, Petey and Doug too. They are doing a pre-transpac race tomorrow starting off the YC at noon. As well as Medicine Man and an Express 37 and a few others. The course I am not totally sure of ..includes going between Santa Cruz and San Miguel, Santa Rosa is in there some where and then back to LA. They are predicting 40 knots on the back side and they are all pretty pumped up about it...and preparing with lots of rum for the excitement to come. Ernie said they will finish between 9pm and 9am (safe spread) depending on the eddy that may come after the blow. Hope they have a great ride and I will have more info at the finish.

Good news! After the first day of Cal Cup, Taxi Dancer is in second place behind Grand Illusion. I'm dying to know if Ed McDowell is driving GI, a wonderful man who must be 72 by now. Ten sleds in contention just like the old days. Yippee!

Haven't heard yet what the results were for the Whitney..although Mag was looking forward to a hot ride down the backside, there was no wind on this side so they were last seen a few hours into drifting towards the island.

This was of course a bummer for all of the Hardway Racers because it became the Impossible Way. Entries in the Impossible Hardway (around Santa Cruz & finish in Ventura) were not so much, probably worried about the 40 knot prediction. Quite a few boats entered in the shorter Easy Impossible Hardway straight down the coast including quite a few catamarans. A brief SE 4 knot puff set them on their way only to diminish shortly after. The Doc and many others quietly quit hours later.

Taxi Dancer, big local winner of the weekend taking 2nd place in the high profile Cal Cup. Good on ya.

Janer,

Just want to add that Mar Caballo won the REAL Hardway - 1st to finish and 1st overall - although there were only 3 boats entered. We did see 40 knots+ of breeze on the backside of Santa Cruz and blew up our boom vang just after a jibe near Gull Rock, but the really big air only lasted for about 45 minutes and receded back into the high teens-low twenties down the main stretch of the backside. We scooted through the typical dead spots around the east end and had decent breeze back across the channel until about 2 miles outside of the entrance to Ventura, where it totally vacuumed out and we had to fight for every little zephyr to just to cross the finish line. A fun race overall, though, and the win made it extra SWEET!!! We sure wish some of the bigger boats had joined in, though. The long course turned out to be a much better sail then the short one.

Moondoggy,

What time did you finish?

We had a great time on the Doc and were sorry to not see the westerly fill in on the easyway side of the course, especially after the confusion at the starting line! Good job on sticking with it.

OK I stand corrected, especially since second place does not a winner make. So..

Mar Caballo was the big local winner of the weekend taking first place in the Hardway Race. Good Job!!

Whitney #3, TP Qualifier, Channel Islands Race

Magnitude finished about 0730 Sunday, Medicine Man a little after 1600, Brown Sugar around 2100, Craic a little after Midnight. Apparently they all had lots of wind and lots of no wind. Hula Girl dropped out, Relentless still unaccounted.
