We had fun out there during the Yachting Cup. Saw up to 23 kts of wind on Sat and only up to 17 kts (and briefly) on Sun. New to the area was the new Ruckus team from Dana point.

Racing was a lot closer than expected with much tighter finishes than the other fleets in the same circle. Congrats to the 54 team for a well sailed victory.

No real major mishaps and/ bad breakages in the Tiger fleet, all the boats finished all the races. Seems the big sleds over in the other circle had all the mayhem.

Would it have been more fun in South Bay? Probally less confused seas and nicer ride upwind but overall the kelp was not bad outside so it was fine out on the Roads. Another 5 extra knots of wind.....I would prefer SoBay.

Any FT10 owners tried symmetrical kites? We're racing mixed fleet with the one in NZ so OD isn't a concern. Due to geography we get a lot of flat runs against tide. A lot of our competitors are running symm and assym. Thoughts?

When you gotta go Deep, that makes heaps of sense.

Every boat racing in any Handicap Fleet these days, needs to have both an Asym for reaching and Sym for going Deep. And a Code 0 for.......when you need it.

I think its a really good mod for the boat especially if you are going to sail in significant chop or swells. Rotating the aso doesn't work well when the boat is rocking around but a sym in this case would be ideal. The sym can have advantages in the steady light winds as well. The other advantage is that your aso design can get a bit more specific ie reachier and not need to be such an allrounder. Its something ive wanted to get happening on our tiger for a while but hopefully soon...

nice night this saturday Saturday on LIS blasting down to Falkner Island averaging about 10 knots with a top of 12.6 in about 15 knots, puffs to upper teens...and guess what, after 6 hours beating back, the boat was in great, solid shape! Crew included 4 juniors - 11, 13, 16 and 17 year olds who all were very much in the mix including trimming the shit out of the kite!

highlight of the night was the Volvo style jibe in the middle of the night with the big kite up, stayed on top of a sweet wave and executed the turn with no problems!

Good for you. I'm glad you have the chance to introduce some kids to a good ride.

TigerinCT gets credit...it's his boat, Red Stripe, and we almost always have juniors on the boat, his kids and their buddies...results; http://sailwave.com/results/PYC_2013_Falkner.htm ....threebeans is a Santa Cruz 37 and Matador is a J 133...small event but being an early September race, there was solid pressure the whole way. Tough to hold time on the bigger boats with more waterline, but it was still a great race...Eggs Benedict at 5am had to do as we missed last call!

Indeed! The boat is a great platform for racing and for getting the kids out. A great night out, and the only negative energy came from the DB adjustment PHRF made to our distance race rating (where they failed all available data). Whatever, I'll sail fast, fun, and get kids on the water despite random illogical non-transparent ratings adjustments.

And yes, that gybe was pretty much epic.

no kids on board for us, but a few weeks back we did a moonlight marathon in south SF bay (Sequoia YC moonlight marathon). Pretty cool racing at night in moderate winds and flat water, especially after the very windy and choppy beat going north...

The GPS died while we were leading the fleet approaching the San Bruno shoal... we had to crawl back to the main channel naviguessing by iPhone, but we still managed to finish within one boat length of the first finisher that took the shortest path through the shoal.

Left Hook - these boats are great fun - have you been sailing on one? Do they need some TLC? sure, but show me a boat that doesn't. Did we put on a Bets rudder? yes, is it better than the original cassette system? yes.

A piece of crap? far from a piece of crap.

They built 120 Ft10m's. The last 20 went to the Chinese navy.

Owners still like the boats and I have no complaints at all. This was a very good project for me. Bill was generous.

Hook is just another lemming Tiga hata. That's his problem. I think you are asking way too much of him to expect him to actually sail the boat before commenting on it.

Hook - I think you're a bit of a tosser for saying that. Yes there were some issues but just about every new build has them. There have been some sensible upgrades to the boat and they are just plain fun to sail, even in big breeze.

If you're ever in San Diego, ping me and I'll take you out and you can update this thread after that.
