Scientologists control who visits Hamilton Island

Never been to

Clearwater. FL, have ya. Blue Shirts all over the place.
"The worldwide headquarters of the Church of Scientology is located in downtown Clearwater, Florida. Officially known in Scientology as Flag Land Base, this international headquarters was founded in the late 1970s when an anonymous Scientology-founded group called "United Churches of Florida" purchased the Fort Harrison Hotel for $3 million. The citizens and City Council of Clearwater did not realize that the building's owners were actually the Church of Scientology until after the building's purchase. Clearwater citizen's groups, headed by Mayor Gabe Cazares, rallied against Scientology establishing a base in the city (repeatedly referring to the organization as a cult), but Flag Land Base was established nonetheless".[32] PDF Dark Side

Clearly money talks to Oatley and Burke

Hopefully the Melges 24 and 32 classes take this into consideration when considering HI's bid to host their Worlds

Not defending scientology, but what's wrong with the owners of a piece of private property denying admittance to whoever they want?

And what does this have to do w/ sailing?
with you BSB, it is a private island resort and the reporter was told that he would be denied access. How is this different than Branson saying you are not allowed to visit his island. Obviously channel 9 has a hard on to "expose" the Scientology and it made for good TV during sweeps but there is nothing there that smacks of anything other than a Guest asking a Host to not allow their event to become a 3 ring circus.

there's a regatta there every year. That and the pitchforks and torches that have long been an essential (yet underutilised) part of FNQ sailing kit need an airing
I might point out that Hamilton Is is run from Sydney - not FNQ. That's where the $$$$ go. I'd suggest that Ch 9 has done something in the past to be excluded. Smells of sour grapes to me.

Have to agree there. The report tries to say that he, an Australian, is being denied access to Australian territory. Not if it is private property, he can whine all he wants.

This "private island" bit is new - earlier this year. Anyone doing a day trip by ferry has to pay a surcharge on the ferry fare of, I think, $100. Not applicable if you are staying on the island or joining a boat or flying out.

There is only one cult worth joining. And if it owned an island, you would all be invited to party there, for free!

So suck on that, Tom Cruise!
