It's an old story. Panama is poor. Poor people there have nothing to lose. The last time I was in Colon an American tourist was held up at gunpoint by a five year old. I don't know if the American didn't take the five year old seriously or what, but the kid shot him dead. That child's life expectancy as a street kid in Colon is measured in months not years. Nothing to lose. Contadora is the safest place by far in the Perlas. Plenty very wealthy and influential peeps got houses on that island. The only criminals there are the well off house owners.
