The inspection port is a nice touch.Sailing as it should be...just hanging out with the young guns at the Sharpie Nats a few years ago. So. So. So... much fun was had.
Winners are grinners! We won the handicap on race 1 and handicapped ourselves with the beer offered as the prize 🤣😜😳.
Also learned the almost unlimited extent to which Duct tape can repair the damage of a "close" port & starboard (near)cross....Real Skillz...the boat didn't miss a race!
Good times

We got an clapped out Penultimate I14 and capsized backwards 2 times when trying to move the stuck daggerboard. A longer hull under the rigg would be greatThe inspection port is a nice touch.
Steve Clark designed a sharpie for me to use an I14 rig that I have. Someday soon I need to pay for the full design so that I can build it.
Great name for the second boat, which was inconsiderately mounted from astern!Another bow to transom incident. One disadvantage of long boats.

Check the photo of the duct tape repair...and notice the transom's twin drain tubes? Maybe that's a clue......The documentary shows that people put a lot of time, effort and money into keeping the class moving.
Did they consider a false floor / self draining cockpit during the development of the "new" boat?
Good question. No idea, it isn't in the measurement rules (only max girths etc). The Sharpie Mainsail Luff is about a foot longer than a 505. I'd guess 20m2 upwind and 46m2 downwind. The boat would struggle with more sail area. We are full hiking at 12 knots. What's the sail area on an Australian Sharpie? Pure curiosity only.
Its a sweet boat as it is. If you even began the process of increasing performance, there would be no point stopping until it effectively became a 16' skiff which is double the price to build new.Good question. Thanks! Like I said, just curious. Steve Clark designed a sharpie hull for me with an I14 rig that would go into it and I can see how big that rig would be about the same size. I need to clear my plate of a few other boat projects and then pursue building that sharpie hull.Good question. No idea, it isn't in the measurement rules (only max girths etc).
