So YOU are pissed of waiting for someone else to do something, yet have a go at someone who does actually do something ??????

Really ??????????????

The Melbourne div 0 fleet is looking a little sad with fleet numbers with the Calms and the Doll not there! At least there will be one more boat (HH42) to race against the few remaining div 0 fleet. Interesting to see how this new HH42 rates against the others in Melbourne unless they intend to race performance handicap
Simply Fun has come in at 1.105 on AMS, 1.218 on IRC.

Give Rob a break. He's been the most active owner in Vic for years now.

PPP, I'm not sure there is another Lou on the horizon. The shoes are just too big to fill? The list of possible's doesn't read well so maybe you need to re-adjust your criticism of Rob H.

Phil Coombs - new boat and seemingly ready to have a crack again

Rob Date - boat overseas and not likely to return

Willo and Co. - boat for sale and coming to and end of era for them?

Peter Blake - boat for sale and also coming to an end?

Mike Hiatt - boat for sale and not interested in sailing anymore?

The Troons - no interest in sailing at all

Alan Whitley - fallen of the earth and seemingly not interested in returning too the scene

Chris Dare - busy taking his kids around regattas or sailing little boats it would seem

Some well made points here, and I agree that (thankfully) there are some encouraging signs of activity around the bay.

The point being missed is that Shogun V, indeed in a very big league, had a stellar first year or so. I have bestowed high praise for this. They were consistently on the money, winning major regattas, and were on a clear upward trajectory with a legitimate claim to being the best IRC boat in the country. Hence my thoughts turning to the Lou Abrahams glory days...

I mentioned that I watched the racing off Sandringham on a fairly fresh day during the first circuit regatta in February and had not seen a yacht sent around the track so well for a very long time.

Something, however, has gone badly wrong. This can't be explained by a throwaway "can't win 'em all" line. Like it or not, they are the current marquee Victorian boat and therefore we all should have an interest in them doing well. The fact is there has been a clear, long term, performance nosedive. This is against all comers, not just TBG or any other individual team.

Why? Has the money dried up? Has an optimisation gone wrong? Has the sailmaker changed? Has the team changed? Has the setup been screwed up? Was the rig replaced? Something else?

Time to ask the hard questions - without crossing any lines, and this is the forum for doing so.

Call it premiership hangover, the guy has ticked off everything he wanted to achieve plus some.

Gone from racing week in week out in Melbourne to racing sporadically with the boat based in Sydney away from home turf. I can't imagine wanting to pay for crew to fly to Sydney every weekend plus accommodation to race around the cans for a nothing race on top of boat storage/maintenance costs and general logistics in making it all happen.

No doubt the boat was kept in Sydney to make it easier to access major races they wanted to do, have the competition of Hooligan etc as opposed to getting the shit beaten out of it going across the paddock, waiting for weather windows etc. All up that equals less time on water which is paramount at that level of sailing in getting consistent results on the board.

Plus running an inshore and an offshore boat for a period, running a successful business, being involved in Olympic campaigns, looking after a property, I'd say the guy has plenty on in general. Do you really blame them for having a quiet period?

Take a step back into reality, we all could be awesome sailors if we had unlimited funds and time on our hands to go sailing and win races all over the place but the majority of us don't live in that fantasy. Do you really understand the amount of effort/$$$ required to run a program like that? Have a look at the current Div 0 fleet, they have all splashed their cash, had their moments of glory and checked back into the real world.

If you have to ask all those questions then you are obviously far too removed from sailing to be able to put forward any valid criticisms as is blindingly evident from the tenor and content of your posts.

Mex has it right; please, do us all a favour and fuck off back under your rock until you have something worthwhile to offer.
