should performance mods be discussed with the Mrs?

My bride got a little cranky when she saw the pile in the garage containing:

windless, anchor and chain

dinette table and hardware

transom seating

batteries (1 4D & 27)

dodger

all cruising sails and furling

cushions

doors

all galley gear...

Now in the next few weeks a new 7'6" epoxied keel will be delivered. Once it is installed she will never know! Maybe I better have it delivered to the boatyard

One needs to learn how to be evasive, subject changer, and out and out truth evader. We are talking about boats now.. And you had excess boat stuff at home? Are you frickin nuts? Ever heard of a storage shed? And yes have that keel delivered at the boat yard. Or when she finds out, you think that water boarding is bad? Or the battery charger hooked up to that old bed springs? YOU HAVE ALOT TO LEARN about owning a boat. Unless you like sails that were on the boat originally? Or even why do you have that damn boat anyway when WE need a new car or what ever she says that we need. It also sounds like you haven't been married or in a relationship for long. Latter in like you will thank God for making you deaf, so you get to turn off that hearing aid and not have to listen to that tounge lashing, but just rememember to smile and say yes dear.

Ordered a new 3/4 oz once upon a time and told North it had to be EXACTLY like the old one. It was close but subtly different and I freaked out with them, but luckily she never noticed. Gotta be smart about this shit.

Friend of mine told his wife he got his sails "cleaned" she was amazed with how goos of a job they did, said they felt just like new!

Try to avoid the "whatever you spend, I get to spend the same amount on me and /or house too" agreement. She will actually spend your your money on her stuff too ...

You've been married to the same woman for 31 years and you are asking us for advice? Been married to mine for 38 and she continues to outsmart me. Her favorite stunt is to buy clothing or shoes or jewelry and simply put it away for a time. When she wears it and I ask "is that new?" she simply says "no, I've had it for months." The absolute truth if somewhat evasive.

We have sailing friends with far, far more $$$ than we have. Their arrangement was that every time he got a new sail, she got a new piece of jewelry.

My wife does not complain about the $$$ I throw into the Porsche; I don't complain about what she spends on shoes, clothes and trips to the beauty parlor.

By the way, nice looking boat.

i usually don't tell the missus when i buy new sails (saves arguments), however one saturday a few weeks after getting some new stuff she was dragged on to the start boat as asst PRO.

of course the line waas boat biased so we had to start right in front of her, with these new carbon things that stuck out like the proverbial. well, didn't we cop heaps as we started ! hahahaha...

of course i told her they weren't new (were a few weeks old by then), but that's when the fight started...

moral of the story...well, i don't think there is one really...

cheers,
