Will be spending next week on the beach at Moro, anyone have a small dingy to use in the bay. Wouldn't mind some time on the water if possible. Contacted the yacht club about a Lido 14, no word.

Cool area G. I was down there with the wife staying in Cambria for a few days. A skinny water sailer would be a great way to see the Bay. I would have jumped at the chance to rent one for 2hrs when we were there. Kayak rentals were the SOP and dang $$$. I dont get why plastic Kayaks are so damn costly to rent?

Bay is pretty small and not much to see except mud flats at low tide. Nice hiking and surf in the area though. Take an SUP and paddle in the kelp around cambria. Kayak would be fine doing that as well.

I can loan you two kayaks and or a vagabond 14. 2 hours south but depending on your route kind of on the way.

Always tasting. Any suggestions?

Amgen Tour is in town and the leg to Monterey starts on the 18th right next to our camp. May do some nighttime metal detecting at low tide and also go look for some moonstones to collect. Got a uv flashlight to fluorese them.

Just be nice to be near the surf. We both miss that after living near the water in Long Beach for six years.

Bianchi... the wine, not the bike..Zinfindel

Wild Horse... go for their reserves Cabernet Sauvignon.. far better than the stuff you see in Trader Joe's

Four Sisters - the Cabernet Sauvignon is awesome.

Zenaida - all they have is good

There was another one Maloy O'Neil... the we're closed the last time there..

Avoid Tobin James if you can... Not to be a snob, but I don't like having my arm twisted to purchase a case of Rock - NNNNNNN - Roll Seeee Raaahhhhhh, join the barrel of the month club... the t-shirt, along with the bottle opener, and don't forget the limited edition set of wine glasses designed specifically for Tobin James wine, and the.......

Have fun,

Oh! Paso Airport Museum... some old war-birds, cars, one being a 1955 MBZ SL300 Gull Wing... pretty laid back experience..

Boy, I can agree with much of Nacra's observations. We go there quite often and did stop at Tobin once..........never again. I think Maloy is closed now. Too bad I liked their cabs. I think how/what to recommend depends a lot on the experience/wine you are looking for. Paso has really grown up and there are hundreds and hundreds of wineries now. So a quick overview of a couple recommendations.

Mitchella

Very affordable good wine and very nice winemaker. The tasting room is small and unimpressive but the patio is very pleasant. We belonged to the wine club for a few years and enjoyed it.

Paso Port/Per Cazo

Average tasting room. Awesome ports and the Per Cazo wines are varietals from the Iberian Peninsula made in the classic style from that region of Portugal. We really like both the whites and reds from here.

Le Cuvier

Crazy shit. John Munch is the winemaker, formerly of Adelaida Cellars many years ago. Really interesting guy and very new pretty tasting room. Started his own a number of years ago and is doing some fun crazy wines (Chard oaked for 5 years!! etc). He is absolutely NOT mainstream and not afraid to experiment. I like the Zin.

RN Estate

Beautiful tasting at the winemakers home by appointment only. Call now. The MOST spectacular Pinot Noir on the planet made by a really interesting and genuinely nice guy. We like Roger a lot. Worth the drive out the east side a ways.

Daou

OH MY GOD beautiful tasting room and grounds. Top of a hill with spectacular views. Big area outside where you can buy a plate of cheese/meats/crackers and a bottle of wine and just sit in comfy chairs all afternoon. Expensive wine and tasting. Worth it.

Law

New winery but we really like the wines. Up and coming winemaker making really nice Grenache and Grenache blends (Mourvedre and Syrah blends as well) which seems to be the new cool thing in Paso. The tasting room is beautiful, the people are very nice and the wines are excellent mid range priced.

Justin

Good wine pretty tasting room but the wines are a bit steep. I mention them because the cave tour is awesome. They are known for the Isosceles and Isosceles Reserve Cabs. High price point but good wine. I especially like the Syrah - "Focus" which is also high price point. Once again its the cave tour.

Just a real thumbnail. If you have a particular varietal you favor let me know and I might be able to make a few more suggestions.

Enjoy!!!! (Oh and Cayucos winery is in....Cayucos just north or Moro on the way to Paso. Its okay.)

Oh....and the drive out the 46 to Paso from the coast highway is REALLY pretty as well. Great views back at the coast and perfect examples of coastal scrub oak ecosystem. Lastly..........Hearst Castle....worth it.

Agree with Daou Justin and RN

I would add Onx

Herman Story

Jada

Caliza

Alta Colina

Booker

Or you might just visit Tin City which is just South of Paso off the 101. Lots of quality tasting rooms plus a brew-house. Its an easy way to taste a lot of quality wines without doing a lot of driving.

And to echo PB's comment if you have a taste for certain verietal or style I'd be happy to try and come up with some other recommendations.

If you're staying at the Morro Strand Campground you'll be about 100 yards from my place.

Oh yes, Herman Story......good call. Also we had Onx at one of the festival pourings downtown and liked it. Have not been to the tasting room. Haven't had any of the others yet. Ahhhhh, so many wineries!!

Came down Hiway 25 and spent the night at the Pinnacles, awesome valley south on 25, crested out on a corner and had two condors soaring the ridge right over us. Headed off to see the Amgen Tour start.

Thanks all.

Holy cow! Just tasted at Guyomar. 2 hour tasting with vineyard owner at his house in the vineyard. Fascinating. Superb dry farmed wines. Very small production - 1200 cases a year all from his 35 acres. This one is a must!
