In one of his Tally Ho videos Leo explains the benefits of slotted screws any why he uses them on the build. Don't presently remember right now though. As far as phillips screws go lets not forget about pozi drives
There is also posidrive, similar but not the same to Phillips and JIS but has an extra 4 slightly smaller flanges at 45° to the primary onesLet us add another twist. There is a head similar to Phillips used on Japanese motorcycle, the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard). Whether it is better or worse than Phillips is irrelevant. A Phillips driver works, almost, and most old Japanese motorcycles have JIS fasteners that have been wienered up by a Phillips driver.

Please check for one of my several 10mm sockets. They're like socks.I bet if I searched my sons car it will be an aladdins cave of Phillips head drivers.
Slotted screws are great if they are going to be painted or puttied, etc. Very easy to clean the slot. Other drive types not so much.
The thing about JIS is that in the 60s and 70s and later, the blossoming Japanese motoorcycles were all fitted with JIS and EVERY backyard mechanic/service guy used Phillips and wienered the fasteners. I have since replaced most with allen head screws on my 70's motorcycle projects. There is also posidrive, similar but not the same to Phillips and JIS but has an extra 4 slightly smaller flanges at 45° to the primary ones
Sweet!

Sorry "SCRULOX"Roberston "Screwlox"
I think a big, bronze machine screw would look weird in anything but slot head.
Everywhere else they suck.
Nice bike @warbird
On any rebuild some of the screws will require their heads to be drilled. Slotted are the worst for this. Plan ahead.
Does anyone else think that while Robertson’s may well be functional they entirely lack aesthetic quality? Like a farmer’s pathetic attempt to improve on the Allen head.
The daggerboard case on my new boat was air tight and swole at a high altitude lake, pinching the board. This is the one time a Phillips head screw saved the day. I found a brass Phillips head screw to replace a stainless Robertson fastener on the case, took my smallest drill bit and drilled a vent lengthwise through the brass screw. Viola! It would take all day to count the visible slotted screws on my boat, and every effing one is clocked. They do look way nicer than Robertson. Anything I build I use Robies, but you can't see them, no visible fasteners. Robies go frm #4 to 00, generally.
Yeah, you need to grind the tips down on a few appropriate-size Phillips bits for those. Works a charm.Let us add another twist. Clocking screws is one of my OCD traits, I don’t recall where I picked it up about 30 years ago but ever since then I have to clock EVERY freaking screw I tighten or I start chanting about pancakes on Tuesday. The thing about it is that in places where many screws are used most folks don’t notice or realize it’s been done but it adds a finer “finished” look to the work. Yes, all the way down to wall plates. We agree that Robertson screws look rather industrial. FWIW the electrician that did my house clocked the screws on the outlet and light switch plates.
metrication is resting heavily on the imperial Americans...Please check for one of my several 10mm sockets. They're like socks.
Oh man! That makes NINE drivers just for “+” heads.Let us add another twist.
