Ok just so you know it’s all not peaches and cream. Oh and the guy breathing hard is collegiate rower. Gnarly steep face. Rarely groomed.
'my hill' sounds like you are a resort owner......My hill had 14 inches of new nice powder on weds and only opened half the resort. The best faces and runs were not open. Weds night it rained and all that fresh powder became snowboard slop yesterday. NorthStar and even palisades had the same issue New Year’s Day at least. Don’t know about this last week. The amount of new snow is epic in the sierras this year. I am going back up as soon as the cabin is available again.
Ha! Not even sure I would want to own it if it was given to me.'my hill' sounds like you are a resort owner...
Nice. Sun Valley. I think my ikon pass works there.flying back out to CO on Thur and driving down to a buddies house in Gunnison, I think. may stay in Vail a couple days if some other friends have a couch open.
Heading up to SLC Feb 5th. staying in a hotel downtown and driving out to a different hill every morning.
then Sun Valley for a week just because I've never been there before.
then Jackson for a week..
then ... dunno yet.
have fun, buy the kid a lesson and go skiing, the Instructors will be able to tell you12" fresh past 36 hours. If I could just tell all these clients to fuck off...
Hitting the hill tomorrow AM to introduce the 7 year old to powder shots.
Question for you all: What is the best signal that kid is ready for poles?
Her public school has a 1130-3 instruction every thursday, comes with the season pass they all get until 7th grade. She has a good group of friends she skiis with too. they all have poles and are a bit older.have fun, buy the kid a lesson and go skiing, the Instructors will be able to tell you
best investment my wife and I made early on with the kids was putting them in multi day ski school programs when we went up for vacations for a few years. We could not really afford it at the time but it’s worth every penny. They learn how to ski and have fun with other kids and you get to go skiing. Then when they are say 10-12 they ski better than you do and can ski anything you can.
When She ask for poles is probably about the right time to get them. Her public school has a 1130-3 instruction every thursday, comes with the season pass they all get until 7th grade. She has a good group of friends she skiis with too. they all have poles and are a bit older.
I spent much of my life skiing exactly when and where I wanted. Only interested in doing it with the family now.

Pre pandemic I could head out and be lonesome almost any day of the week. I remember getting to the top of snowstake bowl on Monarch pass one day when everyfuckingbodyintheworld decided they needed to try backcountry skiing. I mentioned to one large group that this was more people in one day then I normally see in a year.Got some touring in this morning before work. Cold, fast snow. Will need to try and take a day off later this week to get some resort turns in without the weekend traffic. The last two weekends have been busy enough that it's a full day commitment once the parking lot up top is full.
There's an incredible amount of people out in the backcountry compared to just a few years ago. Mixed feelings on that, but it's still cool to see.
It certainly has for me. Also gave me an excuse to drop the extra 25 lbs. I've been carrying since covid first closed my gym. Fuck it is gorgeous out there right now. When She ask for poles is probably about the right time to get them.
I hope skiing with my 9 year old rekindles my joy for skiing. I haven't skied in 15 years.
I left that up to her instructors... my kid's first 20-25 days on skis involved group lessons. I think they moved her into poles pretty quick since she was starting to try and skate around on her skis on the flatter sections......

The backcountry has been very busy here for the past few years, even before covid. More people in the backcountry is a mixed deal - nice to see people enjoying human powered uphill but overhead safety risks are increased in popular areas. The main observation is that the regular go-to runs simply cannot handle so much extra traffic and maintain a non-resort feel. Long-time go-to places that never came close to being tracked up now have moguls yet people still ski them (likely because the local "guide book" says the skiing is great).Got some touring in this morning before work. Mr Miller, you gonna be at Monarch any time next week?Pre pandemic I could head out and be lonesome almost any day of the week. Yea, mixed feelings.
Not likely. Looks like a family member won't make it through this week. After dealing with it my wife wants to get away for a bit.Mr Miller, you gonna be at Monarch any time next week?
Ummmmm, I don't think they had photoshop back then. Took some skill, but they are at least 90% real... They look even better in the folds of Ski Mag... Skiing mag too... At least that is what my 80's Brain tells me... LOLSadly, the tits are heavily shopped.
Kid always had poles once he got off my back. Still uses em to this day....12" fresh past 36 hours. If I could just tell all these clients to fuck off...

Exactly this. I've been having a lot of fun touring around on the mesa above my neighborhood in the mornings and going up and down cinder cones north of town when I have more time. Finding good places to park is the hardest part at the moment. For myself, I've taken to exploring and looking for new areas which has yielded some pretty good results.
