Went to college in Denver. Scheduled all my courses on MWF. T&Th were for skiing. Mostly A-Basin (we called it Arapaho back then) and Winter Park. We always talked about Steamboat and Vail but never made it.

But long after college I did make it to Heavenly Valley, with a side trip to Kirkland.

Memories...

I happy some of you are out there getting the goods.

Me, like I mentioned earlier this is sort of an off season with multiple warm weather trips. Hawaii is next, some SCUBA planned. It's been a nice change of pace. Come to think of it, I first skied at 13, now 63, that's half a century of skiing. So a little time off is OK.

However, since I only have a few days in that doesn't keep a guy in ski shape. What days I have skied have been really good days, but shit I feel old. Bottom line the best exercise for skiing is skiing.

Today I ran up to Monarch pass and just snowshoed up the old pass road. A nice easy 3 mile out and back. No excuse for not doing more as all this great terrain is right in my back yard.

I'm wishing now I'd put in a day or two at Monarch. I think i will next year. Plan to spend a bit of time in Gunny/CB next season since I've locked down some free lodging there.

Monarch is great until it isn't. Namely during spring break. English becomes a second language, lots of all y'all drawl. And the chew spittle going up the lift line. Yea, you can see it.

Have you skied Monarch since they've done all the clearing? It's like a whole new mountain. And across the road in the area known as powerline. Really nice out of bounds terrain now. Well it always was but it's like perfect glade skiing now.

Today was most likely my last lift served day of the season. Headed out of state for most of April.

Headed down to Monarch and finished the day with a little walk up to Mirkwood. In my younger days we'd lap it a few times, not so much anymore. Bluebird conditions and very few people.

Still looks really nice up there.

Way to go Chris.

Me, well I headed up for Copper's last day, got to my favorite coffee shop/bakery in Leadville and realized my pass was at home,,,,,phuck

Oh well it was blustery and cold so it might not have softened up much, at least that's my story.

Spring and the corn harvest is right around the corner with a good solid pack remaining. So it should be a good spring season.

sorry to hear about your pass, same with me two days ago, went to the lift and the pass I had didnt work, luckily customer service was close and they just deactivated this years pass which I must have left in the car and activated the pass I had which was last years. Obviously if I was not at palisades, I could not have done that. Ikon central there.

I will try again to post the vid I made driving into the valley, immense amount of snow still at palisades, more now in may than at anytime in the last 10 years it seems like.

I saw this in one of the other threads - I forget which one. But I found it amazing how far up the gully the snow was still moving while the front was already thousands of feet below.

Avalances are scary shit.
