OxyContin killed my wife, in 2001, When it was at its highest strength levels. Which she was prescript under a doctors care!
So, in this case a total failure of the FDA, the Drug company, Government, Doctors, Politicians, GOD and the Sackler family.

Unless we see an economic collapse of some kind, I doubt we will hit 10 billion. The population growth rate is now at 1% and headed fast to zero. Already is zero and less in many places.

As for the number of people that the planet can support, where did you read that? Seems suspect.

I guess a lot of prediction out there, is there an exact number probably not. Some cultures will survey, but which ones, ie: Shit some groups can't even obey simple water usage (Celebrities Penalized For Wasting Water In California Drought} Yet other groups survive on a gallon of water a day.

There are also other factors that come into play, changes happening faster than predicted Global Climate change, nuclear war, diseases trapped in frozen land being released, Pollution of our oceans, AI, civil wars, mass migration conflicts, not enough food, drinkable water. The problem is that most people here probably never went through the analysis of why we should have an FDA and what it really accomplishes. Someone told them it was a good idea one day, and they just took that on faith.
