I wonder if you could make something like an enlarged inflatable SUP that could take a set of blades and simple boomless sailing rig? I have a Tower inflatable like the one pictured below and it can certainly carry my weight easily with minimum flex. Assuming its possible I doubt it would blow anyone socks off performance wise, but I imagine you could make it pretty cheap. Even better if it could still double as a SUP or kayak. Plus you can just deflate and roll it up when you are done.
My apologies in advance if this sounds like some type of sailing heresy.

They are plastic and there are many. Stop making them today and only make parts and the class will keep going for a few more decades. More than enough time for those racing them for the nostalgia to not be racing them anymore.

I guess we will just have to wait and see if SOL fleets form naturally (as seems to have happened for the Rocket in Marion MA) and whether those fleets decide to host SOL regattas.
But I expect that genuine Sunfish made by LPE and its predecessors will be sailing as a SMOD class in well-attended events supported by ISCA (including Worlds) for the rest of my dinghy sailing lifetime.

I totally agree this is the most likely result.
But as we have been told the Sunfish Class Association has allowed none LP parts ( made by Sunfish direct ) to be used at their events, is it possible they might go the next stage and allow none LP made boats into their events ?
I am not saying this will happen or should happen but could it happen ?

I sail Sunfish a lot, and as far as I know there are no Sunfish Direct parts that are permitted. You can, on a temporary basis due to the lack of LP parts, sail in Worlds qualifiers (as long as it is not the NAs or Nationals) with Intensity sails or Intensity boards, but you won’t qualify for the Worlds if you use those parts.

This may not be the latest ruling but a letter from the USSCA President in July21 included, among other things, this statement, "Based on extensive discussions at our annual board meeting and a lack of replacement part availability, the USSCA board has passed a temporary rule allowing the use of 3rd party parts in class sanctioned Regional Championships until June of 2022. The exact wording as follows: “Due to parts shortage, allow 3rd-party parts at Regional World Qualifying Events until June 1, 2022. Exceptions are made at the discretion of the Measurer or their delegate. No exceptions shall be made for hulls, which must be class legal. Replacement parts shall not provide an obvious advantage. To be eligible for event awards or Worlds qualification, all parts must be class legal.”

So far the only boards allowed are Intensity/Pimental and maybe the Aerosouth knockoff - Aerosouth’s initial board is definitely not allowed. The only knockoff sail that is comparable to a SF racing sail is the Intensity. The others are on the flat to very flat side. Are you referencing a relationship with the Sunfish Class or the relationship between the builder and LP?
As for how the boat is doing/selling, it is selling very well.

I'm pretty sure they meant the class. We all know how it goes when you try to create a relationship with LP.
No one has a proper relationship with LP as they are always looking for a way to screw you over. Ask the Laser class, Sunfish class, Holt, or any of their current suppliers or dealers.
