here we go

"Said Captain Paul Watson from the bridge of the Steve Irwin, currently en route to join the action, “Because the whalers got away basically scot-free with the outrageous sinking of the Ady Gil, they now apparently think they can do whatever they want and they appear to have no qualms about endangering Sea Shepherd crew. What we really need is for the governments of Australia and New Zealand to step up and start enforcing maritime laws in these waters, or who know what the whalers will do next. Australian and New Zealand lives are at risk every day in these waters."

Bob Barker Rammed by Illegal Whaler

At 1209 PM Fremantle, Australia time, the Yushin Maru 3 intentionally rammed the Sea Shepherd ship Bob Barker, penetrating it's hull and endangering the lives of it¹s crew. The collision occurred at 65 degrees 21 South, 67 degrees 58 East, about 180 miles off Cape Darnley in the Australian Antarctic Territory.

The Bob Barker had been actively blocking the slipway of the Nisshin Maru, the Japanese whaling fleet’s factory ship when the collision occurred. Four harpoon ships, the Yushin Maru 1, 2, and 3 and Shonan Maru 2, were circling and making near passes to the stern and bow of the Sea Shepherd vessel. The Bob Barker did not move from its position. At which point, the Yushin Maru 3 intentionally rammed the Bob Barker, creating a 3-foot long 4-inch deep gash in the mid starboard side of the Sea Shepherd vessel above the waterline.

No crew was injured during the collision. The Bob Barker continues to block the slipway of the Nisshin Maru, preventing the transfer of slaughtered whales and effectively shutting down illegal whaling operations.

The incident demonstrates a continued escalation of violence by the illegal whalers in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Said Captain Paul Watson from the bridge of the Steve Irwin, currently en route to join the action, “Because the whalers got away basically scot-free with the outrageous sinking of the Ady Gil, they now apparently think they can do whatever they want and they appear to have no qualms about endangering Sea Shepherd crew. What we really need is for the governments of Australia and New Zealand to step up and start enforcing maritime laws in these waters, or who know what the whalers will do next. Australian and New Zealand lives are at risk every day in these waters."

The crew of the Bob Barker noticed that the Yushin Maru 3 stopped moving in the water shortly after the impact, and appeared to be falling behind as the Bob Barker maintained its position on the stern of the Nisshin Maru. It’s possible the Yushin Maru 3 damaged itself in the collision.

The Japanese whalers are far more aggressive this year than in past campaigns.

Up till now only Sea Shepard has been ramming, now the japs have joined in.Fucking fantastic, the japs have lowered their standards to what we believed anyway.

They have lost any sort of high ground they may have had.

The Japanese must have been listening to some of the total assholes on this site when they stepped up their aggression and continue to sink or attempt to sink the vessels of the anti-whaling sympathizers. Some intrepid and righteous organization needs to organize an armed flotilla to fight and sink the dastardly Japanese whale killers. Any intrepid armed seagoing vessels in the area should send their info into Regatta Dog care of this site, who is openly organizing a legitimately armed response to the unwarranted aggression by the Japanese whaling vessels against the Sea Shepherd maritime crews and vessels.

Perhaps these captains should be transferred to Catzilla and Dogzilla to take the helms and make the America's Cup fun again.

If after years of courtroom chickenshit bull; Giant multihulls of questionable structural integrity in stressful conditions, which are able to double and triple wind speed, fighting for world supremacy on 20 mile offshore courses while being broadcast streaming live for free on the internet cannot get your Am Cup blood running- then nothing will.

It still amazes me that that the Japanese Navy or JDF have not dispatched a few ships to fire on and/or sink these pirates.
Will, I normally agree with most everything you say but in this case it's all about the environment.

Are you a member of Save The Bay? What if the North Koreans came into Narragansett and dumped a bunch of lead or mercury? Would you take them on? I'll bet you would.

For some of us the Sothern Ocean is our Narragansett Bay and those whales are our quahogs. Thier health = the health of our waters in a general sense. How are the fishing quota's out you way working? How did we even get to that point?

I'd like to see the whaling phased out over a period of 10-15 years, thereby giving the Japanese whaling industry a chance to make a soft landing into a more progressive direction.

I'd like to see an organized larger armed multinational response to the illegal Japanese Whalers who are rapidly becoming an aggressive and hostile danger not only to the innocent whale population, to the seagoing vessels who dare to try to share the same ocean area as well.

Why is it that those that advocate confrontational tactics and violence think that they are the only ones that care about the environment?. Few if any people here that spend time on the water are not deeply appreciative of the resources we have been blessed with, and outraged at the activities that are going on, like whaling and overfishing. The Earth Liberation Front believes they are protecting the environment, does that justify their tactics and frequently illegal actions?. The SSS are deliberately provoking confrontations that will injure or kill people trying to stop an activity that is deplorable, but legal.

Does the fact that Asian Carp that are in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and very close to Lake Michigan and a potential ecological disaster give me the right to harass barges or engage in violent behavior towards the Canal users and operators?. Whether I like it or not, they are engaged in legal activity.

You want to stop whaling?. Raise the international awareness and bring pressure to bear to amend the whaling conventions to eliminate the loophole that the Japanese are using. All of the SSS buffoonery is doing more harm than good.
