Would appreciate it if any one has any information about the boat, past owners or Frans.

Thanks in advance.

The Standfast 40 attained notoriety in the 70's when one split down the centerline - in a SORC IIRC. The story at the time was that it had been moulded in two halves, later joined - apparently inadequately.

Good looking boat though.

The overall story reminds me of Paul Whiting.

Didn't the Standfast guy die recently when the keel fell off one of his own boats? I could be wrong.
That 'Standfast guy' was Frans Maas. One of the most respected boat designers & builder in the world. In the late sixties and seventies the goto yard for Carter, Hood, Frers, Stephens, v.d Stadt, et al.

Regretfully he lost the keel of his own built and designed one-off 31 footer during a short offshore race in 2017. That was not a Standfast btw. 2 other crew perished. That was a very tragic event.

My family sold the boat that's seen in the video on the beach. They had Frans Mass build it in 1984 with a Scheel shoal draft keel. In her time, she was a great boat. It has some IOR influence to her desogn but nothing extreme.

I've always been puzzled about the name "Standfast" for a line of sailboats.
Was their advertising slogan: "Faster Than the Average Rock"?

The man that ordered the first one had that in his company logo.
Gordon: "It means courage, endurance and never give in"

I've sailed with skippers like that.

Wouldn't reef when it blew hard and wouldn't drop out of a drifter until we had to average 15 knots to the finish in his 36' 6-knot shit box.

Frans raced with us for almost the entire 1980 season on Piet Vroon's first Formidable, ex-Marionette. He was an excellent navigator and seaman, especially in all the North Sea races we did that summer. A good man, a great shipmate and he ran a superb yard. I miss him.
