Sunfish Porn

I lived in Mountain Lakes and raced Sunfish with MLSA on Sundays for several years. I also used to do Laser regattas down the shore and at a few lakes e.g. March Creek in PA. After a few years I joined Hunterdon SC, initially for the Wednesday night Sunfish racing (or to be more honest for the beer and pizza after Wednesday night racing.) Then I re-started the Laser fleet at HSC and started racing my Laser there on weekends.
I hear that the Sunday adult Sunfish racing has died out at Mountain Lakes but they still have a very popular junior program on weekdays in the summer. At times I get very nostalgic about my years in the Sunfish class. They are a great bunch of people.
Nice, I didn't even know there was racing in Mountain Lakes. I spent a bunch of years racing Rebels on Greenwood Lake - that group is still there but has really aged out. They have pretty active racing at my home in Highland Lakes where they race Sunfish, FJs, Force 5s, Hobies and windsurfers, and there's a pretty good junior program too. If you're ever visiting the area, get in touch and I'll let you take the Rocket for a spin.

Thanks for the offer. I know Highland Lakes well. Seems like it was part of the SANJL series pretty much every year when I lived in NJ (and I guess it still is.) It was also a frequent host for the SANJL Junior Championship when my two sons were racing Sunfish in NJ. (Both their names are now on the trophy.)

If Sunfish died, what would be the boat that the newbies start on in the US?
I think it could be argued that the Sunfish has been in its early death throes for a few years now. Nevertheless it'll still be a long time before anything else is as ubiquitous or affordable. 3 out of 12 results in a local craigslist search for 'sailboat' (only 10 of which are actual boats) are for old Sunfish. I don't think that'll change in my lifetime or even the next 50 years.

I think she'll be around for a while. Although, honestly, I thought somebody would suggest the Rocket.
