So what does a Sunfish doing in PA?

Well A (Rich, R) she's a friend of mine, owns a sunfish that has not see the water in years, Another friend has a young son he wants to teach him to sail, I was to told to watch her dock, and boats this summer!

So this woman has a house on the water in Florida 1 million +, a 100acres of land in Alabama ( building an art studio on) and rental property in Greenwich CT. So money is no object! so I tell her I can get rid of the sunfish (which needs TLC) It will clean up her boat storage area, and The young father X-sailor teach his son to sail, Him and Mom work 2 jobs to support the family, A win/win NO.

She wants top dollar for the Sunfish, So this Sunfish will never see the water and a young boy will never learn to sail.

So why PA, A republican, capitalist only cares about money and a liberal socialist Democrat cares people!

I'll have to inform my Republican sister who dedicates countless hours to a local food pantry that she only cares about money and not about people.

This should go over well.

This is in no way meant to be confrontational.  Could you expand a bit on what you think her political philosophy is?  I am an individual that volunteers at a local food bank and the only people I would ever guess might be of the Republican lean would be when corporate groups show up for half a day.  Wondering your opinion on how she squares it all with the MAGA crowd that has taken over the Republican party?  I have friends that are Republican that would never think of working at a food bank,  Only way we can tolerate being around in these times each other is a truce not to talk politics.  It was so much easier before Trump.

As for the sunfish...keep looking for deals.  I chanced on a fully functional laser on craigslist for $350 from someone that wanted it out of their back yard.

Buying things from people who don't need the money can be either really cheap or expensive.

Might be for the best though, kids today, they look at the Sunfish as an antique ... maybe better to teach him on a stand-up board, or a self-bailer like the Bic O'pen, or even an old Sailfish, so that the kid actually learns to love sailing.

Define top dollar.....for a Sunfish?

Think your conclusion is a little harsh, she owns the boat, its her prerogative to sell for what she thinks a fair price, that said its actual value is arrived at when two parties agree upon a selling price, she may be attached emotionally or the sunfish holds some sentimental. value - maybe she is out of touch with what its actually worth- perhaps showing a couple of Craigslist ads to her might nudge this or find a deal on CL directly that makes more sense, her political colors have little bearing IMHO

It's not the price, it's the point, a month ago she was going to donate to sailing clubs, but no one wanted it. Seeing how the she is worth Millions, selling a sunfish won't change her monies, whether for a dollar or a thousand, also some times the reward ( having a young boy learn to sail) far out ways the dollar value! In my life I taught 1000's to sail and never wanted or got any money for it, Just the reward of carrying on the knowledge/sport of sailing. When gas hits $20 a gal, people will be saying wish I knew how to sail!

Politics', just seem R's are more about $$$ then L's, I used to be an R then I stopped drinking ( another story)

I agree with you it is the point.  But I don't think it has anything to do with politics or being a R or D.  This women you describe is just not a nice person.  You were actually doing her a favor and getting rid of something that she will never use and is just taking up space.

For a new Sunfish, it will cost about $4,000. It will usually cost between $900 and $1,200 for a used Sunfish in good condition. http://www.lansingsailing.org/cms/index.php/buying-a-sailboat

Why not rent the boat from her? The kid may not even like sailing after a couple days on the water.

There's lot of things I could have done, some honest or not.

The sad part was learning what this person was really like or not, someday she'll have to look in the mirror and not like what she sees !

She pretty much does not want to talk politics, so I really don't know how she squares it all with the MAGA crowd.  She is deeply religious and I know abortion is an issue for her.  But I also believe she follows religious teachings in helping others.  My  point here is that when you try to put Republicans or Democrats in a box, particular on matters of character, you're on think ice in the credibility department.  There are Mexicans who are not lazy, Asians who drive quite well, and Republicans who care deeply about people.

I got my boat from a seriously rich guy.

he had 3 in a big hangar and a big sailing boat moored at Williamstown. An old fishing boat he was restoring, a boat he and his dad built and hiding in the corner under a tarp, my little boat.

He gave it to me, complete with all the sails and expensive new ropes and shackles and pullys In exchange for a slab. (Well being classy, I gave him a bottle of Bowmore's )

Well, what goes around comes around. 5 years on, I gave her away for a couple of bottles of Red.

This guy was Prolly a conservative. They are not all mean and greedy.

Go find another old Sunfish, ring around the clubs and explain why you want one. (and leave a dead squid and water in a tightly sealed plastic container under the womans boat upholstery with RARE printed in big letters on the top)

Speaking of Fla west coast and Sunfish, there are (or used to be) two brothers from Pine Island who could sail those little boats in 30+ kts of wind.

Really impressive.

Perhaps they could help you out - they are well known in the area.

The Punta Gorda Sailing Club can put you in touch.
