As a windsurfer, I've never had the patience or desire to suffer learning to surf.

Paddle? Why, when I could have an engine in my hands!

But I love watching surfing! It's beautiful!

And old guys can still rip:

Wave sailing is mostly a young mans game, but if one is well practiced, even old guys still do it.

This mother-of-three is living proof age is just a number, as she is the oldest windsurfer in the world. Real life silver surfer Anastasia Gerolymatou, 81, sailed 18 nautical miles from Skala Kefallonias to Kyllini in Greece in six hours to take home the Guinness World Record. The pensioner, from Kefalonia, Greece, first took to the waves in 1981 during a holiday to Gran Canaria and hasn’t stopped windsurfing since.

Much easier to kiteboard then windsurf make kiteboarding a natural progression for elder windsurfers. Once one is up in years, exercise is medicine and movement life.

Robby Naish is the only celebrity autograph I've ever gotten...

40 years on and I've still 'avoided' kiting!

I'm more likely to learn wing foiling at this point.

Wingfoiling is even more beginner friendly then kite boarding. Compared to windsurfing, the amount of gear needed is not too much and in general it can be learnt and done in a very safe way. It only takes 5-10 hrs at the most to be able to go out alone - though I believe in the buddy system - unless one is at a large venue with mass windsurfers, kiteboarders and wing-foilers on the water. One also doesn't need a vehicle capable of carrying multiple boards, mast, bases, extendable bases, booms, sails, etc. Cost wise very much cheaper then windsurfing's $25-$35 K to be well equiped vs wingfoiling's $3- 3.5K. Also of note wing-foiling is easier quicker to master in extreme high 45-50 knot winds, vs the mass time required to be capable in 45-50 knot winds windsurfing.

Wingfoilers are everywhere in the Gorge! They are finally putting windows in the wings...

I'll still wave sail, just not nearly enough, selectively and only in warm waters like Maui.

4.2 is my smallest sail for the Gorge these days... Smoke on the water - been there, done that - means stay home!

If I only sailed the Gorge, I could survive on 1 board and 2 sails... if I had to!

I once lived for "Nuke'n conditions.

Quite understandable as you approach that elderly point in life, a wise decision to limit it to 4.2 conditions.
