I've said that salt water is corrosive, and I've implied that commercial ships have a reasonably limited economic lifespan.

Steel boats have at least as long a life as any other material if properly cared for.

I've never claimed otherwise, although I would draw attention to an important caveat which you yourself have just made now (in bold above)

In the commercial world I'd say it was usually the systems that reach the obsolescent/uneconomic to repair point long before the hull. To make your point, you'd have to show that steel ships were being scrapped due to rust/hull failure rather than systems obsolescence. But you won't. You'll try to distract.

You just informed us that commercial shipping wasn't relevant above, but your still carrying on about an "irrelevant" subject that you raised in the first place...

As for knowing the difference between anecdote & data - you've yet to provide any so my anecdotes trump your (lack of) data.

In the steel boat community the typical lifespan of steel ships is common enough knowledge that I felt it was redundant to specify it myself, I can't really be arsed finding some primary data, so you win!

That's kind of the problem, steel hulls have an indefinite lifespan as long as they are properly maintained and protected, and that rarely happens for various reasons (economic or otherwise). It only takes a few years of neglect for a steel boat to deteriorated to the point that it's not worth saving, It can of course be done, but at the end of the day your better off building a new boat.... I've had enough of dealing with fools today... So I can't bear to watch any of his crap tonight.

Did he really put a check valve in? Swing checks do leak water through unless the pressure is sufficient to seat them (unlikely in this application) and spring checks require too much pressure to open unless he has a pressurized macerator in line. And if course a swing check can jam open with detritus in low pressure scenarios (15 psi or less).

I was surprised to just read in Wikipedia that Monel is NOT a cupronickel (too low a percentage of copper apparently). It has more nickel than copper. I've always used them interchangeably.

Dug's head is sinking his boat. Why am I not surprised he didn't read the instructions for installing it? You know, like fitting a vented loop if it's below the waterline or heeled waterline.

This was an old video from March with Dug correcting list with lead weights in the diesel. I LOL'd with Dug trying to figure out his own un-labeled plumbing... and thought a few screenshots would be good for a laugh. This is old classic Dug. Sorry for any confusion.
