And if he'd taken all the money he'd "invested" in the build and spent all that time at a paying job, he'd easily have that $500K and then some.
Sure, but most people can't raise $500 from donors. You don't need to like any part of Doug or his frankenboat to acknowledge that haling in that much cash is a significant achievement.

It may reasonably be seen as a sleazy or disreputable achievement, but that's a moral judgement rather than a skill assessment. Even a snake oil seller or a conman requires skill to succeed: not everyone could do what Jim Bakker or Bernie Madoff did.

A Coast Guard doc relating to the oil spill posted on Facebook by Doug. It has a big number on it:

Reddit is having a big Seeker fight. There now are thee subreddits dedicated to this show:

www.reddit.com/r/SVSeeker/
The original subreddit taken over by Doug in mysterious ways a couple of days ago.

www.reddit.com/r/SV_Seeker/
Created by Doug a month ago to compete with /r/SVSeeker/

Both of these are now mostly filled with trolls and sarcasm of varying quality.

www.reddit.com/r/SVSeeker_Free/
Created a few days ago in response to Doug taking over /r/SVSeeker/ and the anticipated banning of all things critical of the great hero in this story.

It's hard to disagree. And yet this dude without wisdom or smarts has raised ~$500k. What's the word for that?
He is a skilled grifter. I give him a lot of credit for coming up with a shtick that pays the bills, there is a lot of competition on that front. The fake brain damage thing was kinda unique, you didn't see Reid Stowe pretending to hit himself in the head with a hammer or whatever
What he COULD have done in the same amount of time and with a same amount of money is come up with an actual usable boat. This is kind of like being really good at hotwiring cars and then stealing a Pinto.

I get that lots of people aren't cut out for 9 to 5, but the vast majority of those folks don't turn to the grift.
For most of Seeker's build, Doug held a "9 to 5" office job as an "Oracle Administrator".

Yeah that's probably Doug showing a big number to get more donations. They aren't going to fine somebody 62K for that tiny a spill. That's a maximum number to get your attention.

More typical penalties for small recreational boat spill of <50 gals:

That sail distracted me so much that I pretty much ignored the yellow pipe on top of the bulwarks. Your eye tends to notice when a boat is sort of... bent looking

Only if you assume that this is all about the boat.

I think that the boat is really only a stage prop, or a plot device: it's the thing that has allowed Doug to play Big Man Leader to a huge crew of wannabes. Much like how a huckster televangelist is motivated more by the cash and the adulation than by the whole Jesus trip.

I still cannot get my head around what purpose those excrescences jutting out from both sides of that massive pilot house serve. I do not think Dugg did himself any favors either by exposing his school bus windows...I mean....potholes...ah...potlights....fuckit, windows to a breaking beam sea or a broach, not to mention overall stability.

The BSO’s windows will never see breaking seas. It will turn turtle before it gets to that point.

Also, Doug is terrified of open water and waves above 2’, so I doubt he ever ventures out into the Gulf.

The pilothouse is full width. I guess he decided that you shouldn't have to go through the pilothouse to get to the aft deck.

Pretty much the same as not working really. At least, not working in any productive sense.

Disclosure, I have a very old Oracle DBA certificate. As soon as I could, I convinced the organisation to migrate to Postgres database, pay no exorbitant fees and get a better product.

I suppose then the same applies then for gaining access to the outhouse..I mean "head". Is there actually a flat or solid surface running along the top of those pipes or is it more like the rungs on a ladder laid horizontally? The mind boggles!

Now Doug is going to suck up to the USCG after his flooding of the boat with hydraulic oil! Maybe they will give him a job at the tops levels as their Public Relations Officer...

If you have never seen his explosion hoax, then watch this (hope the link works) of the original video that he put out.
