Where is the research lab and associated housing? Doesn't seem like much thought if any was put into actually hosting researchers, interns, equipment and such for D\v SinKeReRR to be a research vessel. It does have that lifty crane thingy going for it, that looks researchy.

Or was it just the words 'hosting researchers' added to appease the 501c3 charity requirements.

I sure hoped Mr. SPatton would share his insight on how this whole setup 'a charity to benefit myself' under the guise of 'hosting researchers'

SPatton? Thoughts?

And for the USCG ex-spurts in here. Once the 'researchers' board Sinker does that not make it a commercial vessel subject to different laws? Doog-n-Sinker are providing as service to said 'researchers' and Sea Chesticle 501c3 is paying the operating costs.

Am I missing something?

I can’t imagine having all the berths together in the bow. Makes it difficult to sleep anchored in a blow or underway.
Depends. I spent a lot of time in a 60' fishing boat sleeping in the forecastle. It's not that hard and we were out there to work so didn't run for shelter when the weather went to shit.

So - shrug. What the motion would be like in Sinker, I don't know. But the concept is sound IMO.

I'm not an expert at all on this subject, but I do know that the USCG does not consider research or sail-training to be a commercial activity (or 'coast wise trade' as they like to call it). Which does not mean that there are no USCG regulations to comply with, just different ones.

Easy explanation for both: This is a vessel/ship and as Dugg learned as he drifted down the Mississippi, even the monster wakes of tow boats never came anywhere near crashing on his deck....therefore hatch seals are for pussies.
The impossible companionway? Ha! Looks like he may have put in one of them thar "watertight" doors at the bottom of that thar ladder. But then again, maybe not, since the monster wakes never done did come anywhere near his deck, only a pussy would bother with seals or watertight doors!

There is a seal on that door at the bottom of the companionway, no clue if there is a freeing port or bilge at the bottom of it or if it just becomes a large off center water tank.
Also everything to the left of the companionway is a hatch that slides to the right and covers the companionway. Like the forward hatch and the cargo hatch there is no seal of any sort.

Well what would YOU know, you only design ships that actually have to survive in F12 open ocean weather conditions.

I'm sure Doug has thought of everything that can possibly go wrong and has de-watering pumps sized to empty the bilges under worst possible circumstances.

By the way, have you numbskulls ever heard the saying "there's no such thing as bad publicity"?

After about 10 years of being a solo attorney, I can tell you it is absolutely true.

One day, I'm going to get a new client because of this thread.

So, thanks for putting money in my pocket.

Has there ever been a slower boat? Maybe a 16th century Spanish galleon - with gooseneck barnacles.

2 knots of boat speed in 10 knots of wind.

Ok he doesn't have the main hoisted very much...
