And now... he's aground, again.
Imagine being the guy taking that pic from his wooden boat that he built from plans lofted and transferred to keel, frames, garboards, planking, deck beams, carlins, sheer clamps, etc all from a table of offsets down to the 64th of an inch. He must be very jealous that he didn’t just wing it from an f’d up Brent Swain Prairie Dream and have something impressive to the masses.

Note the disturbed sea state from this boat doing about 3 knots in a light breeze, unlike the other boat.

That is good ole Dugg speak, for ya! ".....sails to wind better than expected." It is difficult to fathom exactly what he"expected" since his BSO barely sails down wind, never mind "to wind". In winds so light a small sailing dinghy trots along happily under full sail, Dugg thinks his BSO heeling is just "something to get used to"?! Wait until he is in a fair sailing breeze, with actual waves and swells, and his BSO broaches. Hard to get used to that!
Equally unfathomable, is how he claims" the balance is much better with the main up,and that is not all the way up". How the good fuck can anyone make such a claim from a BSO moving a stately 1.7 knots through the water(Tide assisted? Current assisted?), with several hundred square feet of sail all hoisted, heeling like witch and a dozen or so turns on the hydraulic wheel just to go from pin to pin? No real feed back with a hydraulic helm. He barely has the lingo down but presumes it will impress his buddies back home that he can even talk like a sailor.

It can only be a matter of time before we see a new video with Dugg Duggsplaining how his grounding is somehow related to inaccurate charts or, if proven wrong, how since his BSO did not spring a leak, it is yet another demonstration of how truly sturdy his BSO truly is. The evidence of course will be his multiple groundings coming down the river system(fresh water) and now this latest one(salt water) without any harm.Dugg will claim this as a sign of success and he likes that.

From the web site of the dinghy sailor, it is a plywood boat designed by the builder himself. While one can easily see some areas which would have benefited from the more practiced hand of a N.A, the builder at least proceeded wisely by building a small manageable simple boat first. No idea if he has aspirations to proceed with building something bigger in the future, but at least he has determined that he does indeed have the staying power and skill set to see a project through to the end. He can also proudly claim that he designed and built it, not the internet.

So we can infer from this that his portholes are indeed awash in 5-8 knots of wind with the main 2/3 of the way up. Yikes.
Water on deck in 12
Capsize in 15

Should be doable with full sails. He'd be well advised to cut off the masts and call it a motorboat, if he wants to live.

He crowd sourced building a 3d model of the boat so he could estimate the waterline (the model was fine the boat was just massively overweight) but stopped taking measurements like 18" from the gunwale. Had he just put in another 20 minutes on that job he could have had some crude hand done calculations about the center of buoyancy. He also filled a water tank and moved it around on deck, but just enough to fix the list, had he taken half a dozen more data points after fixing the list using the pump he already had on board and the tank he already had on board he could have figured out the vCOG (or crowdsourced it) instead he is learning by doing, Vasa style.

diesel -> 4spd automatic tranny w/ torque converter removed -> transfer case -> variable pitch prop
Isn't there also an electric power steering pump in there somewhere that controls the pitch on the prop? I don't know if "nightmare of complexity" is a strong enough way to describe this anymore.

Fucking work of art that is. He is some master craftsman.

And the wire nuts for all the wires under his dashboard.

I haven't got a link for you, but he thinks the ABYC is written by electrical manufacturers just to make money. He doesn't have any rejoinder when you point out that the exact same manufacturers make wire nuts and crimp on connectors and that wire nuts are consistently more expensive.

I enjoy just reading this thread.. i think i may have watched about 10mins of the guys videos that your talking about. The commentary here is awesome.

I logged in today and just read the last 2 pages of posts and now i have a question:

Has he discussed the possibility of building 2 massive outrigger hulls yet?… To aid stability whilst enhancing workshop area.
Next level Next level patreon opportunities there. Plus think of all the research platform space..

Look at her go. A light air monster. Showing a lot of antifouling paint in what looks like very little wind, and dragging the dinghy outboard (does look like the tender stern is not raised high enough so we'll say that was just a beginner error). Or the BST is heeling a lot more than I think

WTF is going on with the angle and rake of this fore mast compared to the main and the hull?

He said he originally intended to build a catamaran but changed his mind to build a monohull in order to carry more cargo. He has had supporters talk about how easy it would be to add outriggers (not realizing how incredibly hard it is to add outriggers) but I don't recall him ever floating the idea.

The forward mast rake is a junk thing.

adding some weight up high to fix stability issues by increasing roll inertia. 10/10 idea

I really want to see him getting the sails down in 25kts absolutely destroying everything.
