to my untutored eye that seems to be sailing rather well

I am yet to see a smidge of humble pie from the shit posters further up the thread who gleefully piled in and made insane predictions about how the boat would never sail, would roll over as as soon as it hit the water and attacked anyone who said anything positive about dougie boy.

I admire his energy and focus.

I admire his ability to motivate a bunch of old blokes willing to lend a hand and give them a fun bonding experience with doughnuts and cookouts while doing so.

Seeker is sure as sugar not tallyho..... but dougie has achieved more than I ever have in my small voyages in underpowered production shit boxes.
reread post #3805 Dylan, it;s not so much the function of the parts that'll hold it back from sailing , more the "bag" it all comes in

Not my cup of tea

but thanks for the offer

I have enough sailing to do here...

and, after a lifetime of business travel as a working journo I hate going on aeroplanes as I always assumeI will die in a crash

so it woud be hard to get to the starting point but

can you imagine the sound of seven overweight old blokes snoring in that sound box of a boat

D

PS do any of the shit posters want to fess up to being even the tiniest bit wrong?

Until they hit those saw blade bunk supports, that is. "And that's when you hear that terrible high pitched screaming..." in the words of Capt. Quint.

Seeker has to reef way down to keep from toppling over in 15 knots of breeze and the most anyone has ever seen her do in any conditions, sail set, or point of sail other than dead down wind, is 4.2 knots.

I understand wanting to see the bright side, but I have to say, as the days go by I’m only more alarmed and convinced that this is going to end catastrophically. The sailing videos do not inspire confidence at all, and only reinforce what many here can plainly see, which is that dugg will be in danger as soon as he gets out into unprotected water. On top of that, the “rigging” that he has hobbled, welded, rewelded, tangled and re-tangled may actually lead to serious injury or worse when confronted with any kind of situation requiring a quick shortening of sail. His anchoring system puts him in danger on several fronts, and virtually every system on the boat is ready to give up the ghost at any moment due to his constant lernin. Add all this up, and dugg is well on his way to making seeker a bottom feature. Also… how karmic would it be of dugg suffered an actual life threatening head injury from the plethora of sharp head height protuberances sprinkled throughout the boat?

In general I’m not into ganging up on people, which certainly takes place here. Doug Lord is a good example of someone who was basically bullied on here for being enthusiastic about something. That never really sat right with me. Dugg on the other hand is has earned (and continues to earn) the critical scorn of many people.

Yeah, all that's true, but he does have a nice lathe, even if he doesn't use it.

Dylan I don't think you've read all these numerous posts. There are several of us who have given credit for minor accomplishments, but said accomplishments are incredibly low on the scale of expectations of a new build vessel - for inland waterways or otherwise, and pale in comparison to the stated goals of an ocean going research ship that was built with donated funds to a charitable organization.

All we can do is continue to send up prayers that all souls onboard get rescued when this vessel meets "that wave" that's out there

Hey, we were right about Tin Can and the Home Depot plywood catamaran no?

In that 1:20 video, Seeker is completely overtaken by a ~40’ sailboat doing about 6 knots. Don’t know what sail plan they had at the time. I’d say Seeker might be making 3 knots. The guys on the sloop sail on and leave Seeker to run aground slowly. Real danger awaits when that boat gets caught in a gale with even bare poles.

Doug should turn back and find a safe harbor to run a pirate ship amusement boat that shoots water cannons at kids in “raiding boats”. Doesn’t need sails and can just slowly motor around raking in some coin.

Here is the closest Pirate Ship tour, actually only about 3 miles from Seekers new 'secret spot anchorage.

The skipper looks pretty authentic...

Turns out that I know one of the skippers, that must be the owner/operator in full dress above.

Trouble is Doug has an un-inspected vessel that can't carry paying passengers.

I'm still going with the future crab/ bait shack myself.

I just watched the double chain coupler Doug rigged for his deck crane. Not sure how that was supposed to stop the 'wobble' (it didn't...) but maybe Doug will see this and weld the links up to eliminate the wobble!
