There is nothing wrong with four knots - that is a good speed for me and my boats... although cunning use of our 20 foot tides and the flows they produce gives me six knots at times. If you want to go faster on the water then buy a cat, jetski or a power boat.

Sailing for most people is not about speed.

Leo lost 1/2" of his middle finger and I'll bet most of that has grown back (finger tips regrow on most people under 40)

I think you are misidentifying the rub. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone ignores suggestions from the youtube comments (in fact you couldn't not do that because people in comments have conflicting suggestions frequently) and everyone has trolls who roll in to cause havoc. Doug has more critics than everyone else because of his shitty toxic self important attitude. There is a reason that Doug's family won't talk to him and it's not that he didn't build a boat with enough righting moment. When he faked a serious injury and followed it up by castigating people for being concerned about him that pretty much cemented his problems with critics.

His whole attitude about safety at sea is toxic, brushing off concerns about doing risky things because the coast guard should get to choose whether they rescue him? The guy hasn't got a life raft on his boat, has three large non-watertight hatches leading down into the hull of his boat and open freeing ports in the bottom of his deckhouse but he has epirbs and radio beacons and every way to call for help, and a towboat US membership. He's not self reliant, he is geared up to rely on others risking their lives to save him.

Plus he keeps filing false DMCA takedowns to silence critics.

Getting a 70 foot boat to do 4 knots is like building a jet airplane that goes 25 knots and calling it good :rolleyes:
* serious question - how much offshore experience do you have? Once you have gone off a 20-something foot wave the wrong way, you can never look at sharp angles and pointy metal things in the cabin or big portholes/bus windows the same way again.

That’s another classic Dugg reinvention of the wheel. There is a video where he shows his holding tank and pump out system… all a complete afterthought because he figured he didn’t need one for some reason. Instead of plumbing a hose to a deck plate… which every other boat on the planet with a holding tank has, he just drags the shit hose through the interior of his boat and inserts it directly through an inspection plate of the tank. Yikes. No wonder he’s opting to. It use this “system”.

See pic below of the stern bunk area. I'm wondering if the large gray pipe with a cleanout is connected to the holding tank.

Based solely on his videos, he has never actually gone near a pump out $tation unless there is something I missed in any one of his videos. Thus, he is slowly filling up his holding tank(s) with hundreds of pounds of shit and piss. Otherwise, he is surreptitiously dumping his crap overboard. This is easily accomplished during the course of a long quite night, anchored out and away from prying eyes.

It certainly appears he is in unwitting need of a polite, but thorough, visit from whatever authorities in Florida verify and certify compliance to the rules governing overboard discharging of human waste and other pathogens.

Cases like Dugg are what ultimately bring about ever tighter regulations for boaters of all stripes, and particularly amateur builders.

What a belligerent fool this clown is becoming.

The only time he has ever shown a pumpout on video was three forks harbor marina like 10 months ago (I don't know precisely when). After that he started using a composting head (a bucket with sawdust) which you empty into any dumpster, trash in the US already meets standards for disposal of human waste (that's where diapers go).

One good way to get the State interested in human waste contamination is to get the oystermen concerned about it. I'm pretty sure Pensacola Bay is a pretty big oyster fishery.

@dylan winter The point is not that anyone serious predicted that she will capsize.

That's simply not how it works.
To keep a few facts straight: Not sinking is the NORMAL and DESIRED state for any sailboat.

The point is that Zonker calculated the initial stability from the roll period of Seeker, which was concerningly low.

I did the same calculation in metric (Zonker calculated it for imperial) and got the same result.
I fed that data and a number of Guestimates into MACS3 which hinted to a very flat stability curve.

These are qualified guesses, we don't know how bad the stability really is.
It is possible that it is okay, though every indication we have suggests otherwise.

So neither Zonker, I or anyone else who has made a qualified guess about the stability has made a prediction.
Simply nobody knows.

The problem is that Doug literally bets his life (and that of everyone else onboard) on the slim chance that the indications of a catastrophic stability are misleading.

Now all we need is one little old storm to put him in somebody's back yard. I can see the insurance adjuster now: "You built your own anchor??" Then he falls backward like that scene in Jurassic Park when Dr. Grant sees his first dinosaur.

My next double dozen of oysters at Apalachicola won't taste quite as good, knowing what they've been filtering. It's all in your head, but still.
