He can drown out that squeal with a blade scrape, once the bearing gets bored again.
Dugh has proven that he can neither effectively motor nor sail to any significant destination. No stated goals achieved for the charity. All that accomplished without even entering an ocean. After a 15 year effort and roughly $1/2 million, it's worth earmarking the failure.

Snap! I've got it!
At the right RPM, it's gonna be dropping some sick techno/house music beats.
Doug could install a ring bearing inside the "nozzle" that attaches to the blade tips! Of course, he'd have to attach the tips with another bearing that lets the blades continue to pivot. The only question is if it's needlessly complicated enough for Seeker?

It sounds like the bearing is turning in the stern tube and being eaten by the set screws.
Yeah that sounds about right. As Zonker said, cutlass bearing looks too tight. What a shitshow!

I think it'd meet the criteria if you could somehow make it require a cooling pump or two.

Wait, maybe the prop should be driven by a chain drive on a ring bearing on the outside of the prop while the "Hundersturd" mechanism remains to control the pitch?

Interesting the bearing went in instead of out. I'm guessing set screws along with interference fit it wont spin but shaft scoring is now a for sure.

Fryslan boppe!
How can you spend god knows how many hours forcing that shaft in with chain come alongs without stopping to think 'hang on, this shouldn't be that hard...'

And then be surprised the thing squeals like a stuck pig...

But that's just Doug for ya, I guess...

Nah, doesn't convince me.

Unless the whole shroud doesn't spin, in the opposite direction to the prop (because we don't want to be conformists, do we?), driven by exceptionally inefficient hydraulic motors (that wobble in their mounts when they spin) and using lots of check valves and other unnecessary hydraulic components that leak, you will not get stakeholder buy in.

Exactly! Does he have no memory of how it felt when he put it in the first time? Sure, it was on dry land and all, but it never did require chain come-a-longs. Forcing with the come-a-longs just ensured that whatever was not perfectly true and properly sized, will never be now, due to forced damage caused by the big brain in Dugg and his come-a-longs.

All the time and resources just to end up back at square one: an unsafe and hardly manageable BSO .

I did get a chuckle when the wizened old sea cracker Dugg opined proudly that he now has got 1200 miles to go before before changing out the cutlass bearing......again.

New video is up on reddit - this is the full video of him pulling the shaft. Enjoy.

Thanks for this!! Loved how Dugg went on about his rudder shit and barn doors rudders blah blah blah to explain why he has to remove the rudder to pull his entire drive shaft out. Most folks by now surely recognize this is just more Duggflection from Dugg where the problem could have been addressed from the get go with...ahem....proper planning! Even a simple stroll around a boat yard in the off season would have provided visible hints and clues about things like prop shafts and their need to some times be pulled out with the obvious solutions..holes and cut outs in the rudder. Nothing at all to do with barn door, back door, front door, trap door rudders! The worst is that I think he actually believes the shit his pumps out regularly from his hot pocket hole.

For a second I thought he was filming a reef under the boat. No, just lovely barnacles on the boat…
The floating reef is thriving; just hasn't selected a permanent spot yet.

Dugh reinstalled the second larger lathe. Some trouble with the workpiece and toolrest moving around. More speed ranges available now on the lathe drive.

It is interesting he did not notice the cutless bearing absence at the end of the stern tube prior to pulling the whole fucking mess apart. He had a thump, thump thump when running problem. He went down with scuba gear, looked at the prop, wiggled things, yet the void did not catch his attention. His troubleshooting skill set equals his design/build skillset.
