TackTick Replacement GPS Antenna

TackTick T908 GPS antenna has died -

lat long, COG and SOG is missing.

I've been told it's just a standard NMEA 0813 feed and given the short life of the T908 in a covered position - 4 years

I'm currently looking at the Garmin HVS 17x as a replacement http://www.ja-gps.com.au/Garmin/gps-17x-hvs/

Which is around half the price of the T908 with similar specs.

Has anyone tried alternatives GPS antennas with the tacktick ?

Did it work?

Any issues I should look out for?

Any models you'd recommend?

Data will be fed into the T122 NMEA interface and then to PC etc.

Look forward to hearing about some suggestions / options.

I use the Garmin you mention with a tactick system and it works without any problems. Also, I mounted it underdeck so no holes and no kicked antenna. Took probably 20 minutes to install and wire.

Thanks Oxygen Mask

Looks like a low cost / low power usage model

Any specs on how many satellites it finds and how long it takes to get a fix from a cold start ?

With only 2 output wires ( + & - NMEA data should be fine - just not sure how well it will power up)
