Hung,

That is essentially the same setup I use now with a gross ans fine tune double sheet arrangment.

Is there some reason that would not work coming right off the trav?

The idea of taking it forward and then thru two 90 deree bends rubs me the wrong way.

With the tiller, all the blocks would need to be on the mainsheet car. Two downsides:

- When the car is all the way to leeward, the jam cleats are not always facing you at a decent angle to easily flick the sheet to release it. This is particularly true when it's fully loaded i.e. just when you might need it to quickly release. It's therefore twice as awkward if you wanted to quickly dump both sides of the double cleat.

- If you are sitting on the high side when the boat is well heeled and the car is all the way down to leeward, (e.g. heavy air beat), picking up the mainsheet to trim it can be drag if it has fallen to the low side.

The big plus of bringing it down in front of you to the swivel-mounted double cleat and block on the centerline, is that it is much closer to you and the angle of the jam cleat is consistently angled for flicking the sheet out to release.

If you look carefully you will se that I cut a divot into the transom just big enough to give me tiller clearance. We can bridge that gap with the trav.I would be inclined to take the mainsheet right of the trav rather than running it forward. Less friction.

Jose:

I saw your sketch. Isn't that I what I have alreeady? Check my revised hatch height version.

Bob,

You lowered the hatch as well as removing the portlight. I left the hatch where it was, deleted the portlight and added an indication of the "ledge". In any case the boat looks really good.

Caud:

Do you have to be young to be "wide eyed". I'm going to stay wide eyed until the moment I drop.

Here for you interior fans is a look aft thru the boat at the middle of the galley. Of course it is tricked out the way I would like it.

Hung:

I hear you on the mainsheet situation.

We will do it your way.

I have a plan taking shape in my head for the future of this little boat.

Whoa Bob, those pipes are being stored upside down! Do you want the gunk to run out of the bowl and into the stem? I've tried several solutions but this is the one that has stuck http://sailingscamper.blogspot.com/
Also, I'd be more inclined to keep the guitar out of it's case and ready to play. It gets played more often that way, for me, anyway.
You need a CA Cargo graphite travel guitar. Absolutely the best guitar for a sailboat. See the acoustic guitar gear forum.

Hell:

The choice of what axe to bring is very personal. We have beat that to death here. I have payed cf guitars and I have never found one I liked.

Moisture is not a threat to a good guitar, dryness is the enemy. You plunk away on your cf mini axe and I'll be plunking away on my giant timber Guild I bought In 1966. I dont have enough time left to waste it playing an axe I don't love and I love my Guild. I have a sneaking suspicion that my Guild is going to last just as long as I am ( we both survived the "60's) and we are both going strong.

John D.

I have the habit of cleaning a pipe immediately after I am thru smoking it. 95% of the time I smoke corn cobs and the gunk tends to stay in the bowl anyway. My Dunhills stay on the office wall, stem side up. But since it concerns you I have made the change. My pipes will thank you too.

.......snip.......I love my Guild. ....snip
and after playing it for a few moments I was heavily into coveting, so much so, that I thought as a good Irish catholic, I have to rush off to a confessional:

Me: "Bless me father for I have sinned many times coveting"

Father: "My son, was it a MILF?"

Me: " No father, it was GIRLS - a Guitar I'd Really Like to Steal"

Edit: That pipe rack is definitely a Bob perry touch

... a place for a nice bottle of single malt and a couple of tumblers, a couple of Corsendonks, and a bottle of port, and you're there Bob!

The guitar thing is interesting. It's amazing how you find the right instrument (could be expensive, could be relatively cheap) and nothing else sounds or feels quite right.

I ma having struggle with the Igloo ( Marine 64) placement in the cockpit locker. It works, but if I raise it up so it's convenient, I lose a lot of volume below the cooler. If I drop it that means getting down on my knees to reach the bottom of it. can't say that would be much of a problem most of the time.

I could easily work in a beverage cooler of a size say for a 6 pack. That way I could stay out of the big cooler most of the day. Not a bad idea Bob. Thanks. On my current boat the cooler lives on the Q berth. works perfectly with the Guild snug in along side it.

If I did a "no guitar" version the Igloo could slide under the steps in the companionway.

TomL wants me to put an electric trolling motor in that space.

Have you ever tried to play one of those?

Have you noticed that weird space I am ending up with juts above the guitar case?

I'm calling it the SOM ( Space Of Mystery) I have no idea what to do with it.

I could put the batteries there but you would have to reach over the trash area to access it and that would be awkward.

I'd also like to get battery weight forward in the boat.

There must be some way to generate electricity by playing the guitar.

best 21'er I've ever seen.

still a work in progress. Need to fix the transom notch, adjust the coming, play some more with the 'blister', plus details....

Yowzer! THAT is one fine little 21'er! I might even give up my cat yawl for that. Sons, THIS is what we love you for---making Bob's work live! Gives a whole lot more sense of what this craft can provide. I know that a lot of folks like the shoal keel thing and for really great reasons, but with the deep fixed keel, this little sucker is a thoroughbred!

CA_21_cockpit_sect..pdfHere is a section thru the cockpit that shows my problem with the position of the cooler.
You could always put a slab of foam insulation under the cooler. It would help keep things cool, raise up the cooler, and gives the space under the cooler a purpose. You could add foam insulation to the sides of the cooler box and to the underside of the cockpit seat to aid in cooling.

Slap:

I like that idea. I also think Slim's idea has a lot of merit. I would have to mock that up and try it but I believe he has hit on a really good way to make it work.

Sons:

That is sooooo sweeeet. I am really starting to like our wee cruiser.

When I look at that rendering I am not here, not here in 2008 Dec, not here in 4" of snow and more on the way. I am somewhere else.
