You never heard of Nasa being civilian to ensure "the peaceful use of space"?

It was a Republican who said and did that.
Seriously Sloop, that ship has sailed. I’m not a Republican, but have enough common sense to know the U.S., Russia, Chinese, and many more are playing games in “space.” It’s annoying, but true. Just because you silly Canadians like to pretend none of this is happening, doesn’t make it go away.

I hear that all the time when Bernie gets on the TV. If you count ALL the folks employed by corporations and how much those employees pay, I think the corporations pay enough. Besides, how many gallons of milk does a corporation drink? The point is, a corporation is not a person. Don't know how the government decided to make a corporation into a person, but since all of them are at least 65 years old, I think they ought to apply for social security and medicare.

Agree about corporations. The only reason at all to tax any corporation's income is to discourage certain types of corporate behavior.

However, corporations are owned by people. The function of corporations is not to maximize shareholder value or any such poppycock... it's to provide maximum wealth to the 0.01% who own almost everything in this country.

During the period of greatest economic growth in this country, the top marginal income tax rate was over 90%. Mega-wealthy people were proud of their charitable foundations doing things like building and running hospitals, providing scholarships, etc etc. The average factory worker owned a suburban home, bought a new car every other year (had to get a new one with bigger fins!), sent their kids to college, could afford health care.

Nowadays the mega-wealthy are competing to build private spaceships to show off.

If the minimum wage had risen at the same rate as corporate boardroom incomes, it would currently be ~$42/hr.

You are doing something wrong. The tax code highly favors the idle wealthy class. Obviously you did something wrong? Or perhaps like many of the wealthy you are merely whining about your effective tax rate of 10% — thinking you deserve lower? Unbecoming of a millionaire when so many have so much less.

I continue to revel in my international jet-set yachtie lifestyle while sending the IRS 100 page tax returns explaining in detail how it is that live below the US poverty line income. But I have professional help as my computer geek background, like your nuclear power and teaching expertise, does zilch for finance and taxes.

You should be posting about what a great system US capitalism is, not whining about being a millionaire.

Go Bernie!
Yeah, not bad that a guy who started as a teacher becomes a multi-millionaire. What a country!

I could do that, but don't want to "revel in jet-set yachtie lifestyle while" taking advantage of tax code crap. And I did post about what a great system US capitalism is...not whining about being a millionaire, just bitchin' about how much it costs each year (I figure I can bitch all I want considering some of the uses government uses my money for). Point is, balance sheets don't give me a stiffie...toys do, boat (small fast single handing trimaran), car (RC F), motorcycle (BMW C600)...at a certain age (health) and certain amount, money is less important as long as you can pay and have all the toys you can use. And the toys are sized for my age and health. After I'm gone, government can have it all, just bitchin' about giving it to them while I'm still here (not that I have any use for the excess).

Funny thing, our great state of Kansas experimented with giving free life to millionaires, upending their tax code so that the richest paid exponentially less.

I think they believed millionaires would come flocking to live and play in Kansas.

None did.

Similarly, you're free to move to a tax-free place and enjoy 100% of your money; with what little security and infrastructure such places provide. My guess is that you won't; like every other wealthy person you want to live where you're comfortable and safe with all kinds of goodies provided by the socio-economic system, while at the same time bitching loudly about paying your share of the bill for all of it.

You are finding out that the system is stacked against wage earners, yet you blame the wrong reasons. The Feds still spend 20-25% of GDP - If you're paying more, then someone is paying less(all those folks benefitting from carried interest, loans against appreciated art/stocks/land, cap gains, etc). You may very well be paying more than your "fair share" - so vote and do something about it.

He'll go out and vote Republican, because...I'm actually not sure why any rational person would vote Republican.

Why do I need government? First, because I want to not have to carry a weapon to keep myself safe from my neighbors or other folks. Second, so that food shows up at the grocery so I don't have to go shoot or fish for my own or garden in the land. Third, so that despots and idiots (like Putin or...) don't come here and kill us or enslave us. There are probably other reasons but less important than those three. Which party (there are only two, Ass and Pachy) does these three things better? No Pachy ever said to defund police. Ass has continually cut defense budgets. Big picture...

Why do all the RWNJs expend tremendous verbiage explaining why they are so-o smart?

Dude, don't the facts speak for themselves?

I bet MultiThom would also say that Republicans are better for the economy, etc etc.
