Read a blurb about how Devos wants to support American sailing. Yeah right, I’ll believe that when he has an all American team on all his boats. Not going to hold my breath on that one.

Typical Republican, say one thing, pretend you have any moral values and do another, keep laying and lying until half the USA believes you.
Pretty pathetic showing.

Storm Nicole is projected to drift into the gulf by Tampa and then curve back up north. That may delay AM a day or two of sailing.

We are currently on a cruise ship drifting off the coast of Cuba waiting for Nicole to make landfall. Will get into port a day or two later.

Big extra drinks/bar bill coming up, Alchy (no pun intended)?
We picked up some refugees our last night at sea while we were hiding from Nicole. Seas were about 8-10 feet and they would not have survived the night. Raft was breaking up and one of the men on the raft had to dive into the water and swim about 40 feet to catch a life line and bring it back to the raft.

The empty raft drifting away in the wind shadow of our ship.

So, what a day for the American Magic Team out in Pensacola who completed a thorough day of training at near enough race pace out on the smooth waters of the Bay throwing in some 30 tacks and 15 gybes with very little downtime between, over a 70 nautical mile track, only coming in when the big yellow orb in the sky dipped below the horizon. It was a full-on session lasting over five hours and as Andrew Campbell, one of the most experienced Flight Controllers in this America’s Cup cycle commented: “We had to wait for it, the mixing and the cold when we went out this morning made it a little funky…but once the breeze filled in, it was really nice out there. About as good as it gets.”

Magic seems to be the only team these days with mojo grooves. Everyone else has problems!

But they don't have a boat to test with. At this stage that's more important, and Ineos do have such (and LR can tow test).

If Ineos wanted sailing practice they have a boat they could use (their last Ac75)

We need more sailing events in Pensacola. Somewhere I'd never heard of as a sailing venue until the last cup, and the recon footage makes it look perfect.

Ultimately they will need practice in waves. And ultimately they will want a test mule (now delayed presumably). But in terms of getting a team up and running and out on the water, their choice of venue and recommissioning Patriot look to be excellent choices.

Since they can make above-water changes to systems and the rig and are (like Alinghi too) doing so at full scale could prove to be a great plan. While aspects of the AC75V2 Design will need to start getting finalized early in the year to ensure build and supply times are doable, the foil sections and stuff could be okay still if delayed until used on, say, an AC40 eventually. Lead times on foils are likely not as long as for systems.

It's also possible that some of the systems going into Patriot will be up-developed and then eventually transferred over and used on their V2. Full-scale must surely have advantages and this could be why AM didn't care too much about the pecking order for the AC40s.
