Remember Pietro Pinucci?
He made some technically interesting videos during AC36 with his partner Vittorio d'Albertas (who BTW is still doing this for AC37, but only in Italian)
Well, Pietro is now part of AM's sail design team - battens and leech control.
Not only that, but it appears AM really raided LRPP since they also got CFD guru Mario Caponnetto, Giorgio Provinciali (VPP) and Davide Tagliapietra (structures)
These were all LRPP veterans, so I wonder what's behind this and how it was received by Max
Here is a cut and paste translation to the link:

Pensacola– Congratulations to Pietro Pinucci, the Quantum Italia sailmaker who joined the American Magic team for the 37th America's Cup. Pinucci, who is also a good Finnist in his spare time, was together with Vittorio d'Albertas the protagonist of our live nights to follow the 36th America's Cup from Auckland, where he has always stood out for his expertise and his technical analyzes on the various details of the AC75s.

Pinucci will be part of the design team of the New York Yacht Club union, taking care of the aero part, therefore sails and related equipment, from battens to mainsail and jib management systems.

Pinucci thus joins the large group of Italian professionals already present in the American Magic design team: Mario Caponnetto, Davide Tagliapietra, Giorgio Provinciali, Paolo Motta and Andrea Mannarino, the latter two coming from the Milan Polytechnic.

A dream that comes true thanks to professionalism and competence.

from there, bold mine

Patriot, the soon-to-be de-commissioned warhorse of the New York Yacht Club American Magic syndicate is thoroughly enjoying the autumn of its days, proving to be the perfect test and training platform at full-scale before the syndicate’s next-gen boats arrive in short order. Almost the ‘grand-dame’ of AC75s, Patriot ongoing role may well be to inspire future generations, perhaps ending her days housed in a maritime museum with a back-story worthy of a serial drama. But for now, she’s still got what it takes, and more, to cut it at the top table of the America’s Cup and that scalpel hull form looks oh so relevant and inspiring for the new AC75 designs that are sat on the super-computer desktops of the world’s greatest naval architects awaiting the green-light to build. “We’re just trying to make the most of the sailing we can get in while we're still in Patriot,” said an almost wistful Madison Molitar, a former U23 All American Men’s Eight rowing champion, and a key component of the hugely impressive cyclor unit on American Magic. Some boats mean more than just their components and Patriot, for sure, will be missed when the team’s AC40’s, the turbo charged rocket-ships, splash in short order.

^ dang, was hoping AM might take Patriot to Barcelona and continue systems development there. If everyone is going to be sailing just 40's then there's not much enticement to go visit to watch any of that this summer. Maybe Alinghi will sail and develop their 75 a while longer?

I'm sure it will go to Barcelona. De-commissioned might just be in terms of getting it ready to ship...

Partially, some of the controls are duplicated, but some are shared. In general the leeches are kept close together to provide a smooth exit with low drag, so you want them moving together (e.g. as you move the traveller), but their shape can be controlled independently to some extent
I’ve been thinking about this, is it allowed to have two luff groves separated by a distance close to the width of the mast ?
Maybe it already is and I have not noticed.

Sounds like the final decommission is coming soon.

Dense fog enveloped the Bay of Pensacola on Monday and for a while it was touch and go as to whether the New York Yacht Club American Magic Team would take to the water. Persistence paid off, as it usually does with this team, and the sailors were rewarded with another solid four-hour training session in relatively light airs with the anemometer struggling to break 10 knots all afternoon. The feeling around American Magic at the moment is that they are on the cusp of a very new sailing programme coming in, in short order. It almost feels transitionary. The team’s AC40 is very close to delivery, something that Dan Morris describes the team as being: “frothed up about” and Patriot will be de-commissioned. An interesting comment that Dan made regarding that process, revealed just how serious the team are to learn at every step of the campaign, saying: “She'll just should be gone through with a fine-tooth comb and just see if we can learn anything during that process, you know you learn on the water and you learn when you put it together but when you take a boat apart you also get to learn a lot about the life that she's living and what's happening in the sailing so you can you can make better decisions with the future boats.”
