Damn, SA hates Android. Sorry about all the whitespace. Good luck replying if you use an android phone, it is way worse. All you can do is insert text within the replied to post.

Is everything up to date on your device? I'm doing this on android with no issues.

@Stingray... seagulls, looks fast.
Instead of the European ones, the experts here can tell they are the African/Caribbean/American gulls variety, common at this time of year and in those wind conditions. Look carefully at those wingtips - and the flock's flight speed and VMG's.

Cool sunset on Patriot, always loved that boat.

When will we see the AC40’S?
The recon guy wrote this,

Patriot decommissioned

The display at the end of the session marked the decommissioning of American Magic's AC75. It is expected that the team will now shift across to sail AC40's - starting in three weeks at the beginning of March.

So basically a month of no sailing? Interesting

Still intrigued by this - Why would AM stop sailing Patriot if the Ac40 won't be ready for sailing until early March? Possibilities that I can think of

1) There is a problem with Patriot - seems very unlikely because this was signposted and there were no problems on last sail

2) They don't think they can learn any more from her- whilst they are restricted in what they can test on her (e.g. no new foils, masts etc) they will also be restricted on the Ac40 if they have to revert it to OD. So
a) does that mean they are actually getting 2 AC40s - one of which they can mess around with in LEQ12 config as much as they want?
b) or does it mean they have finished testing systems and now want to concentrate on foils?

3) They are selling it to French? Seems odd to curtail your own development for a few dollars, so would only make sense if combined with 1, 2 or 5 or they were short of money

4) They are not decommissioning it completely, but moving it. Seems unlikely from the words used, and again, why not wait until the Ac40 is ready

5) They need the sailing team to concentrate on sailing the Ac40 in the simulator so they can get effective use when they start

Of those 5 seems the most likely, but still surprising. Any views?

Offshore.
I disagree with your assessment of "they will also be restricted on the AC40 if they have to revert it to OD" yes they have to be able to restore the boat to OD mode, but that still allows them to have a LEQ12 mast, LEQ12 foils, and as long as the modifications to the hull are non destructive, to play with systems on the AC40, it will be harder with just one AC40 but not necessarily any worse outcome.

Another possibility you've missed is 6) They are launching an full on LEQ12

It is true I have discounted the possibility of a full on LEQ 12, because i think it is a bit late for that.

Yes with an AC40 they can easily test foils, sails and mast tube, but it will be much harder to test systems.

I also forgot to write down another possibility- they have basically used up their allowance of changes on the AC75 so they can't test much more on that anyway. It is possible, although since they could still change the bits that have already been changed as much as they like that also seems unlikely

Another possibility is they don't have the shore crew resources to run a full 75 and commission one or two AC40s, particularly if they are starting one as an LEQ12 immediately. Maybe they have their 40s already and are devoting resources to getting them sailing or perhaps they are doing the same with systems to soon be installed in the 40s.

Another, similar possibility is their boat builders are gearing up to start the AC75 build.

Lots of good possibilities listed above, must surely be a combination of some of them. And yes, they are getting two AC40s.

Maybe it's just a game.

So Patriot is done and is about to be decommissioned and dismantled. Looks like the team is going to carry on with the AC40's moving forward. Makes sense.
