Sounds like a group of 6 Australian's want to go for a joy ride on an AC45.

Divided by 6 weathly individuals, $25,000 really isn't that much for a day of thrills and spills you can't get anywhere else................................

Anyone want to split it 6 ways and joy me for a joy ride?
Agreed, but unless they had intention to follow through then why do it?

AUS has several days left, before some a select part of the Artemis crew gets their allocated slot.

Time is precious on that AC45, there is more to it than price.

This team looks like a joke but if the get Bundock they coud get strong. Do somebody know if Bundock is already tied to another team?
That's a bit rough. Do you know who the rest of the team is. Obvioulsy Stevie has not played on the AC stage however is very much a world class cat sailor.

Bundy will not make an AC team, but would be a very handy addition. There are plenty of other top AUS sailors. Bundy may be involved with another team.

New:

On a grey and blustery day, the newly established Australian challenge for the 34th America’s Cup put the AC45 catamaran through its paces on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbor.

Sporting team uniforms with the slogan ‘AUS AC 34’, the group of nine sailors rotated in various sessions on board – and their verdict afterwards was universally positive.

TEAM Australia has a strong emphasis on youth sailors coming out of multihull, skiff and moth sailing circles. Extreme sailing is in their blood and they took to the hardwing catamaran with enthusiasm.

Josh McKnight was bullish about the team’s chances. “There is no reason why we can’t win the America’s Cup,” he declared. “That is the great thing about the new catamaran. It is all brand new. Everybody starts from scratch, so everybody is in with a chance.”

Youth match racer, Lisa Chamberlin, has very little multihull experience, but described the AC45 as an “awesome boat.” Match racing in multihulls would definitely be a challenge, she said, but reckoned it was going to be great fun.

Jason Waterhouse, by contrast, has been sailing multihulls since he was four years old and is working towards an Olympic slot in the 2016 games.

“The boat is incredibly efficient,” he said, adding that he thought the Cup would see some exciting new moves introduced to match racing.

Despite some initial skepticism, veteran Australian match racer and Olympic sailor Neville Wittey was looking forward to the prospect of match racing in multihulls. “I would love to aim one of these things at somebody in real anger. It will be fantastic. This boat will elevate our sport. It is very athletic and exciting.”

Team sailing coach Adam South has a long history of offshore multihull racing and, although he has more grey hairs than most of the team, his enthusiasm was dialed right up the scale. “A sensational bit of kit,” was how he described the AC45

What happened to poor Iain's edict that only teams 'having' placed an order could try out the prototype?

What makes you think they haven't placed an order, did I miss that?
<choke> Simooon!
Lol! Okay, perhaps he posted that gem of inside knowledge despite clearly not knowing much of anything about the challenge.

IIRC then Ludde said on about Jan 11 or 12 that they had paid for an entry, including the order of an AC45. Could even have said two. It is in a video at YuuZoo / Big Boat Racing, and I think quite far into it. Since they are sailing it, it hardly seems worth the effort, Simon would ~still~ argue the opposite! :)

Much more importantly, entered teams are ~required~ to purchase at least one, and so they obviously will even if (somehow!) they did not already do it.

Darn. Entering the AC requires printing a T-shirt and matching cap. Out of my price range :(

“Sailing with the wing will require learning some new techniques, but I was very impressed by how easily and fast the boat transitions through tacks. This is definitely the way the America’s Cup had to go. It is the most magnificent thing that has happened in sailing in 150 years.”

Ouch, that's gotta hurt!

I think Aus AC34 just earned a free wing!

Of course I know nothing at all about this challenge. The only cat sailor is one of my best buddy's from A Class, who I train with and shared a house with at the Nationals, another of the crew sailed with me in 18's and 50% of the guys are in my contacts on my mobile because I know them.

That's great, actually.

Xlot says you posted that AUS have not ordered an AC45, implying Iain is breaking his own rules. I missed that, if you did post it.

Hold it - if it wasn't clear, mine was a call to Simon to reiterate his doubts about the group's substance. That he has just done, and he definitely seems credible.

Okay - Gotya, and agreed. I thought you were on about who has and has not ordered AC45's but there is a larger issue at play.

Let's hope the best of the Aus talent can somehow coalesce strongly in time. Simon has been focusing on the sailor side of the program(s) but with any luck that part can come around in due course under good, well-intentioned, well-supported program management. I saw a newsclip video from Australia mentioning the AUS entry, the reaction by the two (fairly young) announcers was surprisingly jazzed.
