Would be interesting to see and discuss all the technical aspects of the Hydrogen Chase Boats, as well as post more general news, if you like.

A general description can be found here, in case you did not see that yet, or want to check it out again:

Ahh the good old days...

Gotta wonder how many syndicates are going to buy into this as Toyota is one of few that are hanging their hat on a hydrogen future.

Didn't Fuckwit4 claim TNZ broke the 50 knot barrier endlessly which renders these pretty redundant.

Interesting take out from the whole reveal was Stephen Tindal the greatest wrecker of the Kiwi village SME still surfacing to wax lyrical about the benefits of this technology.

Imagine the cost of converting a stinkpot Riviera to hydrogen.

He did as did many others

Unfortunately on the Shirley podcast, Dan Bernasconi shut that down when discussing the foil capabilities of the new boats versus the old AC36 Saying that they were nowhere near some of the claimed numbers.

I’m well aware that defenders of the Faith will say that this is deliberate subterfuge and keeping your cards close to your chest…

Are you saying Team NZ never broke 50 knots, at all? Not even close? Shit Te Rehutai must've been the slowest boat in the fleet! I guess the slower boat can win the cup then...

Didn’t you hear, Lord Dalton alone was the only human on the planet that can and did solve the cavitation issue. It’s no longer a question of if they go 50+ knots, now the only question is at what height above the water will the entire boat fly, including foil tips. It’s likely the boat/airplane will have a top speed of 150 knots and be able to sail directly into the wind.

Good topic FB...although the idea of hydrogen launches has been widely ridiculed by experts in the subject on this very forum, so was a foiling monohull.

...time will tell....

Twat, I am saying as has Dan that the claims of 58 etc were utter horeshit

and yes in terms of max boat speed recorded through the regatta ETNZ were the slowest boat, it’s a course race so max speed means very little, you know that full well

So fucking stupid. Insisting every team have one of these has to be one of the biggest wastes of team resources possible in this cup cycle. Just a ridiculous demand on teams. Does Barcelona even have the H2 intfrastructure to support these?

It's a bit of a green initiative from one of ENTZ's major sponsors, besides the big ribs are massive guzzlers, so there's some merit in there somewhere.

The good old days aren’t going anywhere. I know American Magic just bought a whole bunch of new outboards. The hydrogen boat will probably just haul VIP’s around for the cameras.

Regardless of the (doubtful) merit, for sure that thing is fugly. Italian architects have nothing to fear for the near future

hydrogen will most likely power large transportation. the point at which is cost competitive with fossil fuels could be 20,50 or 150 years in the future.

whether this project does anything to bring that date forward or not is very debatable.
